How to Require Biometric Verification Before Chrome Fills Passwords on Android

Use Chrome’s reported Autofill with Google setting to request biometric or device-credential verification before saved passwords fill on Android.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To ask Chrome for fingerprint, face, or device-credential verification before it fills a saved password, open Chrome > More (three dots) > Settings > Passwords > Autofill with Google and turn on Use biometric authentication. Complete any verification prompt. The precise switch path is reported in a Google Chrome Community reply from May 31–June 3, 2025, so menu names and availability may vary by Chrome version or device.

Turn on verification for saved-password autofill

  1. Open Chrome on your Android phone.

  2. Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Settings.

  3. Tap Passwords. On some versions, this area may instead appear through Google Password Manager.

This path comes from a Google Chrome Community Product Expert reply, not a current official Android help page. Google’s Chrome for Android help confirms that Chrome can fill saved passwords and that a fingerprint or passcode may be required, but does not document this exact toggle. The available prompt can depend on the device; do not assume the feature requires fingerprint-only verification.

If “Use biometric authentication” is missing

Check which autofill provider Android is using. Google says Android users can choose Google or another autofill provider; if a different password manager is active, Chrome may not show Google’s autofill controls. You can review the provider information in Google’s Chrome password help and the Android autofill guidance at Choose an autofill provider. Menu wording and placement differ across Android devices and app versions.

Do not confuse password autofill with passkeys or payment cards

Saved passwords

The switch described above is for authenticating before Chrome autofills a saved username and password. Google’s Android Chrome help describes fingerprint or passcode verification as a possible requirement when signing in with a saved password.
