On an Android phone or tablet, open Google Play and go to profile picture > Payments & subscriptions > Purchase verification. Choose the verification requirement or frequency shown for your account and confirm the change. If you’re setting a control for a child, use Family Link purchase approvals instead.
Require verification in the Google Play app
- Open the Google Play app on your Android phone or tablet.
- Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Purchase verification.
- Tap Verification requirement or Verification frequency, choose an available option, and confirm.
Google says the labels and choices can vary by region and device, so follow the wording displayed in your own Play Store settings. Do not assume that every account offers the same options. Google Play Help describes the purpose this way: “Turning on purchase verification helps prevent accidental or unauthorized purchases on your device.”
Set verification separately on the Google Play website
The setting for purchases on play.google.com is separate from the Play Store app setting. On the website, open the profile menu, select Settings, change Verification preferences, then select Update. Google requires you to enter your Google password to change these web preferences. Google also says verification is required for remote app installs through the website.
Require approval for a child’s purchases
For a child in a family group, use purchase approvals rather than relying only on the child account’s verification setting. In the Family Link app, select the child and go to Controls > Google Play > Purchases & download approvals > Require approval for. A parent or family manager can choose which eligible purchase categories require approval. Google Play family settings also let a family manager set approval requirements for members.

Google’s purchase-approval options apply to eligible transactions made through Google Play billing.
