If paid digital content has disappeared, start with the seller that processed your payment. Save your order details and evidence of when access stopped, then submit a request through that seller’s official refund or support channel. Removal may support a refund or another remedy, but it does not create an automatic worldwide right to your money back: the answer depends on your country, seller, purchase type, terms and what actually happened to your access.
First check what “removed” means
A title disappearing from a store does not necessarily mean an existing buyer has lost access. Establish which situation applies before requesting a remedy:

- Delisted for new buyers: The item no longer appears for sale, but may remain available in your library.
- Unavailable to your account: You can no longer access something you paid for. Note when access stopped and any error message or removal notice.
- Temporarily inaccessible: A service outage, account issue or technical fault may be the cause. Ask the seller whether access will be restored and when.
- Changed or replaced: The available version may differ materially from what was described when you bought it. Save the original description if you can.
These distinctions matter: delisting alone is different from withdrawing access to an existing purchase, and a temporary fault may call for restored access rather than an immediate refund.

Usually, contact the company that took your payment, even if another company hosts or distributes the content. Check the receipt or bank/payment record to identify the seller, storefront and account involved. If you bought a voucher or code from a retailer, that retailer may be the right first contact: PlayStation, for example, directs voucher-code buyers to the retailer that sold the code in its Ireland refund guidance.

For purchases made through Apple, Google Play or PlayStation, use the official route for the account and regional storefront that handled the transaction. Some purchases are billed by a different seller, so confirm who actually processed payment before submitting a request.
Prepare your refund request
Keep the documents and details needed to identify the purchase and explain the loss of access. The platforms do not prescribe one universal evidence checklist, but these items make a request clearer:

- Order confirmation, receipt or transaction number
- Purchase date, item title, account and storefront or region
- Payment record, if the receipt does not identify the seller clearly
- Screenshot of the error, notice or unavailable item, with the date you noticed the problem
- Relevant announcement or support response about the removal
- A copy of your request and any reply
Ask for the remedy you want—such as restored access, replacement content, a partial price reduction or a full refund. If you are unsure which remedy applies, describe the problem and ask the seller to explain the available options.

- Find the purchase. Sign in to the account that made it and locate the order history or official refund/help page.
- Choose the transaction and reason. Follow the seller’s current instructions for your region and product. Add the order number and state when access stopped.
- Explain the issue plainly. Say whether the item was removed from your library, is inaccessible, is temporarily failing, or appears materially different from its purchase description. Attach relevant evidence.
- State your requested outcome. Ask for a refund or another remedy, and keep a copy of what you submitted.
- If refused, ask for the basis. Request the policy or rule relied on in writing. If you believe local consumer law applies, identify your country and cite the relevant official guidance or law.
Official platform routes and important limits

What consumer law may provide
Platform refund policies and statutory consumer rights are different things. A seller’s policy may set its own eligibility conditions; local law may provide remedies when paid digital content is not supplied or does not conform to the contract. Whether removal qualifies depends on the applicable law and the facts, so do not assume every delisting means an immediate full refund.

United Kingdom
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers qualifying contracts for paid digital content. Depending on the breach and statutory conditions, remedies include repair or replacement, a price reduction and, in specified circumstances, recovering money for breach of the statutory supply term. Where a statutory refund right applies, the Act says payment must be made without undue delay and within 14 days after the trader agrees the consumer is entitled to it. The law also addresses the means of payment. These provisions do not establish that every content removal qualifies for a refund.
European Union
The European Commission says the digital-content rules under Directive (EU) 2019/770 applied from 1 January 2022 following member-state transposition. For faulty digital content or services, its digital-contract explainer describes first asking the trader to fix the problem; if it persists, consumers may seek a price reduction or terminate the contract and receive a refund. For a specific claim, check the national law implementing the rules and the terms and facts of your contract.

If the seller denies your request
- Ask the seller to identify the exact policy condition or legal basis for denying the request.
- Reply with the purchase details and evidence showing why access is unavailable or the content no longer appears to match what was supplied.
- Check the consumer-protection authority or dispute-resolution options for your country. There is no single escalation route established for every country, payment method or storefront.
- If the amount or legal issue warrants it, seek qualified local advice. The UK and EU examples above may not apply to a purchase governed by another country’s law.
