How to Report Phishing Emails in Gmail, Outlook, and Apple Mail

Find the right reporting steps for Gmail, Outlook.com, Outlook mobile, work or school Microsoft 365, Apple Mail, and iCloud Mail.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use your mail app’s phishing-report option when it has one: Gmail on a computer offers Report phishing, and Outlook provides phishing reporting on the web, mobile, and supported work or school accounts. Apple Mail’s documented general action is Junk; for a message impersonating Apple, forward it to [email protected].

Do not click links, open attachments, or enter information from a suspicious message. The exact menu can vary by app version and account type.

Report a phishing email in Gmail

On a computer

  1. Open the suspicious message.
  2. Click More beside Reply.
  3. Select Report phishing.

Google describes phishing as an attempt to steal personal information or break into online accounts through deceptive emails, messages, ads, or sites. If you reported a message by mistake, open it and choose Report not phishing from the same menu. See Google’s instructions for avoiding and reporting phishing emails.

Phishing versus spam in Gmail

Use Report phishing for a suspected phishing message; Gmail’s separate Report spam action is for spam. Google says it receives copies of messages reported as spam or moved to Spam and may analyze them to protect users. Google also says manually moving a message to Spam sends a copy of the email and attachments for possible analysis. The cited phishing instructions describe the computer workflow, so the same menu path should not be assumed for every mobile version. See Google’s spam reporting guidance.

Report a phishing email in Outlook

Outlook.com

  1. Select the suspicious message in the message list.
  2. Choose Report, then Report phishing.

Microsoft says this reports the sender but does not block that sender from sending more mail. Blocking is a separate action. A message failing authentication is not necessarily malicious, but use care with senders you do not recognize. See Microsoft’s Outlook.com reporting instructions.

Outlook for iOS or Android

  1. Open or select the suspicious email.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu.
  3. Choose Report Junk, then choose Phishing.

See Microsoft’s mobile Outlook guidance.

Work or school Microsoft 365 account

In a supported Outlook client connected to an organization-managed mailbox, select one or more messages, choose Report, then Report phishing. Your organization’s administrator controls whether reports go to an internal reporting mailbox, Microsoft, or both. In the organizational setup described by Microsoft, messages reported as phishing are deleted; that behavior should not be assumed for personal Outlook.com accounts. See Microsoft Learn’s Outlook reporting guidance (last updated July 3, 2026).

Mark unwanted email as junk in Apple Mail or iCloud Mail

Report an email impersonating Apple

If a suspicious message looks as though it came from Apple, forward it to [email protected]. Apple gives this route specifically for messages impersonating Apple; it is not presented as a general reporting address for every phishing email. See Apple’s guidance on recognizing and avoiding social engineering (published June 15, 2026).

What to do if you interacted with the message

  • Do not click more links, download files, or enter personal information through a message or site from an untrusted or unknown sender.
  • If you followed a link and are asked for a password, go directly to the service’s official website instead of providing it through that link.
  • Use your mail provider’s reporting action described above. Reporting and blocking are separate in Outlook.com, and Apple’s general junk action is a filtering action rather than a universal phishing submission route.
