To report an intimate image shared without permission, press and hold the specific Snap or Story and tap Report Snap. For a Chat message, press and hold it and tap Report. Snapchat says reporting in the app is the fastest and most effective way to alert its safety teams because it identifies the content being reported.
Report the specific Snap, Story, or message
- For a Snap or Story: press and hold it, then tap Report Snap. Snapchat also accepts reports for content such as Snap Map and Spotlight Snaps.
- For a Chat message: press and hold the message, then tap Report.
- Choose the reason that best describes what happened, review the selected content and reason, and submit the report. Snapchat says a submitted report cannot be withdrawn, even if it was made by mistake.
Snapchat’s guidance says, “Reporting in-app is the fastest and most effective way to alert our safety teams.” See Snapchat’s reporting instructions.

If you cannot report in the app
Use Snapchat Support’s web reporting route to submit a safety concern. On the Support Site form, an email address is required so Snapchat can contact you. Snapchat says you may enter “none” instead of your name or username, but leaving out a username may limit its ability to investigate. Anonymous reporting is not widely available in the app.
When Snapchat’s law-based NCII form may apply
Snapchat has a separate route titled “I want to report non-consensual intimate imagery, based on a law in my jurisdiction.” Its availability is tied to laws in some jurisdictions, so it should not be treated as a universal reporting form. If this route is available to you, choose “They’re actually sharing my nudes/intimate imagery without my permission” under Report the violation, complete the required fields, and submit.

What Snapchat’s policy prohibits
Snapchat’s Community Guidelines, updated September 2026, prohibit producing, sharing, or threatening to create or share nonconsensual intimate imagery (NCII). The policy includes intimate photos or videos taken or shared without permission, depictions of private acts such as bathing or using the bathroom, “revenge porn,” and threats to expose someone’s intimate images. It also prohibits sextortion and sexual exploitation. Read Snap’s Sexual Content and Conduct guidelines.
A report asks Snapchat to review content under its policies; it does not guarantee removal. Snapchat may leave the content up if reviewers do not find a policy violation.

Review and possible action
Snapchat says its safety teams and systems review reports around the clock. Reviews typically happen within hours but can take longer. If Snapchat finds a policy violation, it may remove the content, lock or delete the account, and, where appropriate, report the offender to authorities. If it does not find a violation, it may take no further action. Snapchat says it will notify you of its decision by email and/or an in-app message. Learn what Snapchat says to expect after reporting.
Confidentiality and report status
Snapchat says it does not tell the reported account-holder who submitted a report, including if that person appeals an action. Keep the confirmation and check for Snapchat’s outcome message. In-app report status may be available in My Reports.
Optional hash-based services
These free services can help participating platforms detect matching images. They are supplementary: report the specific Snapchat content directly as well. Do not forward, upload, or download an intimate image as a condition of making a Snapchat report, and do not assume a hash service will find or remove every copy.
| Service | Who it may fit | How it works and limits |
|---|---|---|
| StopNCII | An eligible person who is currently 18 or older, was at least 18 when the image was taken, appears in and still possesses the image, and meets the service’s nudity or sexual-act criteria. | Creates hashes on the user’s device and shares those hashes with participating companies; StopNCII says the image itself is not uploaded. Snapchat says it participates. |
| Take It Down | Images taken when the person depicted was under 18. | NCMEC’s free service creates a hash without uploading the image. Participating platforms can use it to detect matching content on public or unencrypted services. Snapchat says it participates. NCMEC notes platforms may have limited ability to remove content already posted. |
Use the service’s own eligibility guidance before starting: StopNCII and Take It Down.
