Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThis guide is specific to India. For an error in an existing electoral-roll entry, apply to correct it using Form 8; if you are not enrolled, use Form 6 to apply for enrolment. A complaint about service or handling is a separate route, and it does not replace either form. The Election Commission of India (ECI) voter-services portal provides voter-list search, application tracking, forms and a complaint service. Open the ECI voter-services portal.
First identify what needs to be fixed
| Your situation | ECI route | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot find an enrolment | Form 6 | Apply for new enrolment. |
| Your existing entry has incorrect details | Form 8 to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) | Apply to correct the electoral-roll entry. |
| You have a grievance about service or handling | ECI complaint/suggestion service | Submit a grievance and track its reference and response. |
| You disagree with an ERO order | Appeal to the authority specified for the relevant process | Seek review through the applicable appeal route. |
These routes address different problems. A general complaint does not itself correct an entry or enrol a voter. The ECI FAQ says: “For correction of mistakes in electoral rolls, an application in Form 8 is to be submitted to the Electoral Registration Officer concerned.” Read the ECI FAQ.

Check the voter list and any application status
Search the official voter-services portal to see whether your name appears. If you have already submitted an application, use the portal’s application-status service to check its progress. This helps distinguish an application still being processed from an entry that needs a fresh correction request. Go to voter search and application tracking.
Apply to correct an existing entry with Form 8
If you find your entry but its details are wrong, submit Form 8 to the concerned ERO. ECI guidance says you can apply online or offline. Use the form for the electoral-roll correction rather than relying on a complaint about service to make the change. See ECI guidance on Form 8.

For questions about changing voter-card or EPIC details, the ECI voter-services portal FAQ addresses “How do I correct/change and details of my Voter Card/EPIC?” Consult the portal FAQ.
If your name is missing
You do not appear to be enrolled
ECI identifies Form 6 as the application for new enrolment. Submit that application through the official process; a service grievance is not a substitute for it. Find forms and voter services.
Your name was on the list before
Check your status in the voter-list search, then contact the ERO for guidance on your specific case. The applicable next step can depend on what happened to the previous entry, so do not assume that a new-enrolment request or generic complaint is automatically the right fix.
File a complaint about service or handling
Use the complaint/suggestion service on the ECI voter-services portal for a grievance about how a matter was handled or about service. ECI says a complaint is assigned to an election official and that a reference ID is sent to the citizen; use that ID to track the complaint and response. Open the ECI complaint service. The portal lists 1950 as its contact number.
Appeal an ERO order through the applicable authority
If you are challenging an ERO order, the recipient named by ECI depends on whether the matter arose during revision or continuous updating:
- During revision: appeal to the District Election Officer.
- During continuous updating: appeal to the District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Executive Magistrate or District Collector.
- Further appeal: ECI says a further appeal lies to the State Chief Electoral Officer.
Check the order and confirm the appropriate route with the relevant election office. The ECI guidance cited here does not establish an appeal deadline, so confirm any applicable time limit directly rather than relying on an assumed deadline. Check ECI guidance.
Use the right election authority for your country
Form numbers, complaint systems and appeal authorities differ by jurisdiction. The routes in this guide are for India and should not be applied elsewhere; outside India, check the official election authority for your location.
