Choose the arXiv route that matches the issue: use general support for account or submission help, moderation support for moderation status or an appeal, the Code of Conduct form for conduct concerns, and arXiv’s copyright process for infringement claims. If you are the author correcting an ordinary scientific error in a public paper, submit a replacement version rather than withdrawing it. A public paper cannot be completely erased from arXiv.

For an ambiguous post-publication issue, contact general support or moderation support as appropriate and ask which process applies. The official contact page identifies separate channels; it does not establish one universal form for readers to request scientific corrections.

Make a report specific and useful
Give arXiv enough information to locate and understand the issue. The contact guidance asks for relevant details, including identifiers and URLs; the following checklist is practical guidance, not a claim that every item is a required form field.

- The affected version and exact location, such as a section, page, figure, table, equation, or metadata field.
- A concise explanation of what appears wrong and why it matters.
- Relevant evidence or links, such as a source comparison, data, calculation, or document.
- Your relationship to the paper and a reliable way to contact you.
- The outcome you are seeking, framed as a request for review or guidance rather than a demand for a predetermined sanction.
For moderation matters, arXiv specifically asks for paper IDs, former correspondence, and submission summaries. Keep claims factual and distinguish what your evidence demonstrates from what you suspect.

If you are correcting your own paper
Before the paper is public
Use the controls on your arXiv user page to delete a submission or return it to incomplete status for later modification and resubmission. If those controls do not work, contact arXiv administrators with the submission identifier, explanation, and reason for withdrawal. See Withdraw / Retract a Submission.
After the paper is public
For a normal revision or correction, submit a replacement version; arXiv says it is inappropriate to withdraw a paper simply because it is being updated. Explain the error and the changes in the replacement and its comments in a way that helps readers understand what changed. That explanatory practice is author guidance, not a claim about a required arXiv field.
If the issue is not an ordinary update—for example, it raises a moderation or policy concern—contact the relevant support channel and ask which process applies.

What withdrawing a public paper does—and does not do
Only the author can initiate withdrawal through the user page: select Withdraw for the relevant article and enter a specific reason in the Comments field. That reason appears publicly, so write it for readers. The withdrawal creates a new version marked withdrawn, which becomes the default view, but earlier versions and their full text remain accessible. arXiv’s withdrawal instructions state that announced public articles cannot be completely removed.
Do not use ordinary withdrawal as a substitute for the copyright process. For alleged infringement, follow the separate copyright reporting route.

Use the moderation support portal or [email protected] for moderation status questions and appeals. Include the paper identifier and relevant prior correspondence or submission summaries. Do not contact a moderator directly.

Moderation is not peer review: arXiv says its staff and moderators cannot give feedback on a submission. A report is not itself a finding. arXiv may withdraw a public paper that violates its policy or indicate a concern in the Comments metadata, but a reader should not expect a moderation ticket to provide peer-review-style scientific adjudication. arXiv also says appeal decisions are final and do not include feedback, and appeals may take time.
Response expectations
arXiv describes general support as typically operating 0900–1700 EST/EDT, Monday through Friday, and says most requests receive a response by the end of the day, subject to staff availability and holidays. This is not a guaranteed deadline. The moderation guidance likewise gives no fixed resolution timetable.
