To report a fake cryptocurrency giveaway on X, open the post’s overflow menu, select Report post, and follow the prompts. If the account impersonates a person, company, or organization, report its profile as well. In the United States, also report the scam to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If you already sent crypto, contact the exchange or ATM operator immediately and ask whether the transfer can be stopped or reversed.
Report the giveaway post on X
- Open the giveaway post.
- Select its overflow menu (the three-dot icon) and choose Report post.
- Follow the prompts and choose the reason closest to what the post does. Explain the visible facts: for example, it promises to multiply cryptocurrency, asks users to send funds to a wallet, impersonates a named person or company, or links to a suspicious site.
X accepts reports of posts that may violate its Rules or Terms of Service, including spam, harmful content, and impersonation. After you report a post, X replaces it in your view with a notice that you reported it, while leaving an option to view it. A report asks X to review the content; it does not itself suspend the account or guarantee a particular outcome. X’s instructions for reporting a post

Report the account if it is impersonating someone
If the profile is posing as a person, brand, or organization, report the profile for impersonation as well as the specific post. X says bystanders can report impersonation from the profile, and an X account is not required to submit an impersonation report. Account reporting is also the relevant route when the account’s conduct is the issue and there is no single post to report. X’s impersonation reporting guidance

Check whether the giveaway is an X Ad
If the item appears in an ad placement, check for X’s advertiser label. A post that merely says “ad” or “sponsored” is not necessarily a paid X Ad. For an actual X Ad, use X’s separate ad-reporting route; X says it reviews reports of Ads Policy or platform-rule violations. Its policy prohibits ads for fraudulent or scam-like behavior, including cash-gift schemes and certain financial scams. X’s ad reporting guidance · X Ads Policy on deceptive and fraudulent content
Report the scam to U.S. authorities
For a scam affecting you in the United States, file a report with the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If the offer also involves investment fraud, the FTC lists the SEC’s complaint portal as an additional reporting route: SEC: Submit a tip or complaint. These reports serve a different purpose from X’s platform review, so one does not replace the other. FTC guidance on cryptocurrency and scams
The FTC and SEC routes here are U.S.-specific. If you are elsewhere, use the consumer-protection or financial regulator and law-enforcement reporting channel for your country rather than assuming a U.S. agency has jurisdiction.

If you already sent cryptocurrency
- Contact the exchange or cryptocurrency ATM operator you used immediately. Tell them the transfer was connected to fraud and ask whether it can be stopped, reversed, or refunded.
- Keep the provider’s response and case number, if one is given, with your other records.
- Preserve the transaction hash (also called a transaction ID), transaction date and time, cryptocurrency and amount, receiving wallet address, and exchange or ATM details. The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center identifies transaction hashes and transaction dates and times as useful report details. IC3 cryptocurrency-fraud guidance
Recovery is uncertain, and the FTC warns that crypto payments can be difficult to get back. Be wary of anyone who later demands payment to recover your funds: that can be a second scam. FTC guidance on cryptocurrency and scams
Save evidence before it disappears
Keep the post URL and profile URL, screenshots or copies of the post, account name and handle, any impersonated identity, wallet address or QR code, promised return, payment instructions, suspicious links, timestamps, direct messages, transaction receipt, and transaction hash. A clear report sticks to what you observed. For example: “This post promises to multiply cryptocurrency if users send funds to [address/account]. It appears to impersonate [person/brand, if applicable]. Post URL: [URL]. I saw it on [date/time].” Adapt the wording to the evidence; do not state an unverified accusation as fact. Avoid clicking unfamiliar links or sending more money to unlock a prize.
