You need the compatible replacement battery and a Torx T5 screwdriver; use a plastic tool, not metal, to disconnect the battery connector.
Before you start
Fairphone’s repair page lists “Replace your battery” for the Fairphone (Gen. 6) and calls for the relevant spare part, a Phillips 00 or Torx T5 screwdriver, and the matching repair guide. Fairphone estimates about 5–10 minutes; that is the manufacturer’s estimate, not an independently measured repair time.

The US Gen. 6+ product page identifies the removable battery as a 4415 mAh lithium-ion unit (17.26 Wh, 3.91 V nominal). The product page displayed a US price of $39.95 when accessed in 2026; price and availability can change, and that figure is not a global price.

- Power off the phone before opening it.
- Prepare a Torx T5 screwdriver. Fairphone’s US product page says a T5 tool is included with every Fairphone, so check what came with your phone before buying one.
- Have a plastic tool available for the board-to-board connector. Do not use a metal tool to disconnect it.
- Get a replacement battery explicitly compatible with the Fairphone (Gen. 6)/Gen 6+ and verify that the seller is an official Fairphone sales channel.
Replace the battery
Follow Fairphone’s Fairphone (Gen. 6) repair manual. The steps below reflect its instructions; they are not a claim of hands-on repair testing.

- Power off the phone and place it screen-down.
- Remove the two screws securing the lower back cover, then slide the cover off.
- Remove the five screws around the battery and lift off the connector cover.
- Using a plastic tool, disconnect the battery’s board-to-board connector. Avoid metal tools for this connector.
- Remove the old battery from its compartment and place the replacement battery in the compartment.
- Align the connector and press it into place.
- Reinstall the connector cover and its five screws, then slide the lower back cover into place and reinstall its two screws.
Choose a compatible, trustworthy replacement
Fairphone’s health and safety guide recommends buying spare parts solely from official Fairphone resellers. It says Fairphone supports and takes responsibility for batteries it produces, and discourages batteries bought outside an official point of sale. Confirm model compatibility and check the seller’s status through an official Fairphone sales channel; a matching name in a marketplace listing alone does not establish authenticity.
Fairphone’s repair manual describes the device as designed to make repairs accessible and straightforward. The exact battery is the key purchase; tools are secondary, particularly if you already have the included T5 screwdriver.
