For a playlist, add the replacement, move it into the old video’s position, then remove the old entry. If the playlist is already playing, check the edited list and resume playback if needed: YouTube’s instructions do not say that an active player refreshes its queue automatically.
First, distinguish the video from the playlist entry
YouTube’s guidance is explicit: “You can’t replace a video.” A new upload is a separate video with a new URL; it does not inherit the old upload’s URL. You can edit some details on an existing video, but changing the video itself requires a new upload. YouTube Help: Replace or delete your video.

If your goal is to change what appears in a playlist, edit the playlist instead. Adding a different upload and removing the old entry changes playlist membership and order; it does not replace or alter the original upload. If the old URL, views or analytics matter, keep in mind that deleting the old video is permanent.

Before editing a children’s playlist
- Sign in to the account or channel that has permission to edit the playlist.
- Confirm that the replacement video is available to the intended viewers, and note the playlist’s current order so you can put it in the right place.
- If the video is made for kids, make sure its audience setting is accurate. YouTube requires creators to identify whether existing and future videos are made for kids. Some playlist features, including saving to a playlist, may be restricted for made-for-kids content; features may also be unavailable on supervised accounts. YouTube Help: Set your channel or video’s audience.
Replace the playlist entry on a computer
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Open Content, then select the Playlists tab.
- Open the playlist’s menu and choose Edit on YouTube.
- Add the replacement video. YouTube’s playlist guidance allows adding a video from search, by URL, or from your channel library.
- Drag the replacement into the position where the old entry belongs.
- Open the old video’s menu and choose Remove from .
- Review the playlist order and play the edited list to check the visible result.
Adding and positioning the replacement before removing the old entry helps keep the intended item in the playlist during the edit. YouTube documents playlist editing, but does not specify whether an already-running player refreshes its queue automatically. If the current session still plays the old sequence, resume playback from the updated playlist.

Edit the playlist entry on mobile
In the YouTube Studio Android app, open Content, find the video, open its options, and choose Edit. Tap Add to playlist, select the playlist, and save. To remove the old video, return to the same playlist-selection flow, uncheck that playlist, and save. You can also use Studio’s playlist editing controls to change details and ordering. Labels and controls can vary by app version and account.
See YouTube Help: Edit a playlist for the current instructions.
Check repeat playback separately
Playlist repeat and Autoplay do different jobs. Repeat cycles the playlist; Autoplay selects another related video when the current video ends. For a loop, open a video in the playlist and turn on the playlist’s loop control. YouTube documents repeat controls on computer, mobile, and TV or gaming consoles. After editing, check that repeat is still enabled on the device playing the playlist.

Neither repeat nor Autoplay establishes that a playlist will remain available or play without interruption around the clock. See YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists and YouTube Help: Autoplay videos.
If the change does not work as expected
- You cannot add or remove the video: Check that you are signed into the account with editing access. Made-for-kids restrictions or a supervised account may limit playlist features.
- The old video is still playing: YouTube does not document automatic queue refresh for an active session. Reopen or resume the updated playlist and verify its order.
- The playlist stops after a video: Check playlist repeat on the playback device. Autoplay is not the same setting and may play a related video instead of cycling the playlist.
- The replacement is not visible to the intended audience: Check the video’s availability and audience setting, then review the playlist while signed into an account that can see the video.
Or let it run in the cloud
If this playlist is part of a YouTube channel that needs to stay live around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud option for looping uploaded videos as a YouTube stream. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a camera feed. Review StreamNeo or the copyright safety checklist before using content you do not own or have permission to stream.
