To replace a server-side vehicle in FiveM, edit the resource that creates it and change the model name or hash passed to the vehicle creation native. For ordinary spawns near active players, restart the resource after changing CreateVehicle. For a vehicle that must be registered while no player is nearby, use CreateVehicleServerSetter, enable OneSync, initialize the entity through a replicated state bag when a client takes ownership, and verify that the expected vehicle state actually reached the server.
For a hosted FiveM instance while you test this resource, Godlike.Host offers FiveM servers with a Pterodactyl-based game panel, free DDoS protection, and SFTP/FTP access. It is not on Cfx.re’s list of authorized FiveM hosts (fivem.net, 10 Oct 2026).

What you are changing
A server-side vehicle is created by a FiveM resource, not by a setting in the game client. Resources are stored below the server’s resources/ directory and normally include an fxmanifest.lua file plus one or more client and server scripts. Your first task is to find the resource that calls a vehicle creation native.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Search the resource folders for CreateVehicle, CreateVehicleServerSetter, model hashes, or a framework function that eventually creates a vehicle. A text search such as rg 'CreateVehicle|CreateVehicleServerSetter' resources/ is useful when you have shell access, but also inspect framework spawn utilities if the direct native is not present. The model may be a readable name such as police or a numeric hash stored in a variable. Change that input rather than changing unrelated handling or appearance code.

Make a backup or commit before editing. If the replacement is a custom vehicle, its asset resource must be started and its client files must be valid before the server script can create the model.
Choose the correct creation path
The native you use determines whether a nearby player is required and who can initialize the entity. The three common paths are different in authority and failure behavior.
| Creation path | Nearby player required | Server registration | Initialization approach | Appropriate use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Server RPC CreateVehicle |
Usually yes | Can fail when no suitable player is nearby | Apply server-side setters after ownership is available | Vehicles spawned close to active players |
CreateVehicleServerSetter |
No | Registers immediately; starts as an orphaned entity | Trigger owner-side setup with a replicated state bag | Persistent, scheduled, or out-of-scope server entities |
Client-side CreateVehicle |
The creating client must be in scope | Client-authored unless separately controlled | Client script performs setup | Local effects or deliberately non-authoritative spawns |
Use the ordinary server RPC when a player is definitely nearby and the resource does not need to create an out-of-scope entity. Use the server setter when the server must register the vehicle regardless of player proximity. The setter-created entity is initially orphaned and is not simulated until a suitable client enters scope, so it needs an ownership-aware initialization path.

1. Identify the model argument
Open the server script and locate the call that creates the vehicle. You may see a model name, a hash literal, or a variable loaded from configuration. Replace only that value first. Keep the vehicle type, coordinates, heading, and other arguments unchanged until the new model has been confirmed.
For example, if the existing code uses a variable, change the assignment from one valid model to another:

local model = 'old_model_name'
local vehicle = CreateVehicle(model, x, y, z, heading, true, true)
Use the exact in-game model name or a valid hash. A typo, an unavailable custom asset, or a model resource that has not started will result in a failed creation or an entity that cannot be displayed correctly.
2. Check the resource manifest
Confirm that the resource has an fxmanifest.lua and that the manifest declares the script containing the creation call. A typical manifest separates server and client scripts:
fx_version 'cerulean'
game 'gta5'
server_script 'server.lua'
client_script 'client.lua'
The exact files can differ, but the important point is that the edited server file must actually be loaded by the resource. Editing a similarly named script in another folder has no effect.
3. Enable OneSync
Server-side entity awareness requires OneSync. In server.cfg, ensure the setting is present and enabled:
set onesync on
Restart the server or reload the configuration according to your normal administration procedure. Also verify that the server build and game build used by the deployment support the natives and networking behavior required by the resource.

4. Restart the resource and test
Start the custom vehicle resource before the resource that spawns it, then restart the spawning resource after changing the model. From the server console, the usual resource command is restart resource_name; replace resource_name with the actual folder name. Watch the console for script errors and test with a player close to the spawn location.

Confirm all of the following:
- The replacement model appears rather than the old model.
- The vehicle has the expected network visibility for other players.
- It remains present after the creating player moves away, if your design requires that.
- Any framework ownership, fuel, keys, plate, or persistence code still recognizes the replacement model.
Use CreateVehicleServerSetter when no player is nearby
A server RPC vehicle creation call can fail when no player is close enough to become an appropriate network owner. This is common for scheduled jobs, depot vehicles, world props, and entities created in a routing bucket before players enter it. The server setter native exists for that case. It registers the entity immediately on the server, but the resulting vehicle is initially orphaned and is not simulated until a suitable client enters scope.
The setter takes a model, a vehicle type, coordinates, and heading. The model type must match the kind of entity you are creating; automobile is the usual choice for a standard car. A minimal server-side pattern is:
local model = `police`
local vehicle = CreateVehicleServerSetter(model, 'automobile', x, y, z, heading)
if vehicle == 0 then
print('vehicle creation failed')
return
end
Entity(vehicle).state:set('initVehicle', true, true)
The zero check is important. Do not continue by setting state or properties on an invalid entity handle. In production code, also validate the model before creation, log the resource and spawn reason, and decide whether a failed attempt should be retried or reported to an administrator.
Initialize the setter vehicle after ownership changes
Server-setter entities cannot safely receive every client-native adjustment before a client owns them. A common pattern is to write a replicated state-bag marker from the server. When a client takes ownership, a handler on that client sees the marker, checks ownership, applies the local setup, and clears the marker.

State bags replicate key/value changes between the server and clients. Normally, the server or the current entity owner is allowed to write entity state. The third argument true in the server example requests replication of the marker.
Place an ownership-aware handler in the client script:
AddStateBagChangeHandler('initVehicle', nil, function(bagName, key, value)
if not value then return end
local entity = GetEntityFromStateBagName(bagName)
if entity == 0 then return end
if NetworkGetEntityOwner(entity) ~= PlayerId() then return end
SetVehicleOnGroundProperly(entity)
Entity(entity).state:set('initVehicle', nil, true)
end)
The example uses SetVehicleOnGroundProperly as the owner-side operation, but your resource may need additional setup such as applying appearance, doors, extras, fuel, or framework-specific properties. Keep those operations inside the ownership check. If the handler runs on a client that is not the owner, it should return and wait for the state to be observed after ownership changes.
Why a one-time handler is not enough
Ownership can change during initialization. A documented race occurs when the state-bag handler runs, but ownership changes before the vehicle appearance or other durable data reaches the server. For that reason, production code should use a retry or ownership-check loop rather than assuming one callback is conclusive.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAfter initialization, verify a property that can be read reliably from the server, such as the vehicle’s colors or another appearance value your resource sets. If the expected value is not observed before a reasonable timeout, treat initialization as failed, remove the broken entity if appropriate, and recreate it through the server setter. The timeout and retry count are design choices: choose values that allow clients to enter scope without leaving an endless stream of duplicate vehicles.
Best Value
Keep the replacement vehicle alive and authoritative
Orphan mode
A server-created entity can be removed by normal server lifecycle behavior when it is no longer associated with an active owner. SetEntityOrphanMode(vehicle, 2) can keep a server-created entity from being removed by the server. This does not make the entity impossible to delete: a client can still request deletion, so validate deletion requests and clean up intentionally when the resource or mission ends.
Routing-bucket lockdown
If the vehicle lives in a routing bucket, review that bucket’s lockdown mode. Lockdown can prevent clients from creating entities in the bucket. Strict mode gives the server stronger authority over entity creation, which is useful for controlled interiors, missions, and persistent world areas. Match the setting to the resource’s ownership model; an overly restrictive bucket can break scripts that legitimately rely on client-created temporary entities.
Framework ownership and cleanup
Changing only the model does not automatically update framework records. If the resource stores network IDs, garage entries, keys, fuel, job assignments, or cleanup lists, make sure those records use the new entity handle or network ID returned by the creation call. Register cleanup for resource stops and mission cancellation so retries do not leave abandoned vehicles in the world.
Stream a custom vehicle correctly
A replacement model that is part of a custom vehicle resource must be available to clients. Vehicle model and metadata files are loaded through manifest data-file entries. Cfx.re documents vehicle-related data types including CARCOLS_FILE; use the appropriate declarations for the files supplied by the vehicle package and ensure the client files are valid.
A manifest entry has the general form:
files {
'data/vehicle_file.meta'
}
data_file 'CARCOLS_FILE' 'data/vehicle_file.meta'
The exact data-file type and path depend on the asset. Do not copy a declaration blindly from another vehicle: use the type required by the metadata and keep paths case-sensitive where the host filesystem requires it. Start the custom asset resource before the script that creates the vehicle. If the model is not streamed, the server script may still run, but clients can see an invisible, incorrect, or invalid entity.
Troubleshoot a replacement that does not work
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The old vehicle still appears | The edited resource was not restarted, or another resource creates the vehicle | Search all resources for the creation call, confirm the active folder name, and restart the correct resource. |
| Creation returns zero or fails with no nearby player | Server RPC creation has no suitable network owner | Use CreateVehicleServerSetter and initialize it when a client enters scope. |
| The model is invisible or replaced by a default vehicle | Invalid model name, missing custom asset, or asset resource not started | Verify the model name or hash, start the asset resource first, and check manifest data-file declarations. |
| The vehicle appears but is not settled on the ground | Owner-side placement ran before a client owned the entity | Use a replicated initialization state bag and call SetVehicleOnGroundProperly from the owning client. |
| Appearance changes sometimes do not persist | Ownership changed during state-bag initialization | Verify a durable property such as colors, retry ownership-aware initialization, and recreate after a timeout if verification fails. |
| The vehicle disappears after everyone leaves | The entity was orphaned or lifecycle cleanup removed it | Review orphan mode, persistence logic, and intentional cleanup paths. Apply SetEntityOrphanMode(vehicle, 2) only when that lifecycle is wanted. |
| Clients can create unauthorized entities in a controlled bucket | Routing-bucket lockdown is not enabled or is too permissive | Choose an appropriate lockdown mode; strict mode provides the strongest server creation authority. |
| The script errors on a native | OneSync is disabled or the server build lacks the required support | Confirm set onesync on, update to a compatible server build, and check the resource’s native usage. |
A production deployment sequence
- Find the resource and the exact vehicle creation path.
- Validate the replacement model name or hash and start its custom asset resource if applicable.
- Confirm
fxmanifest.lualoads the edited server and client scripts. - Enable OneSync with
set onesync onand confirm the required server/game build. - Use server
CreateVehicleonly when a nearby player is a dependable owner; otherwise chooseCreateVehicleServerSetter. - For setter vehicles, set a replicated initialization marker and handle it only after the local client owns the entity.
- Apply vehicle setup, clear the marker, and verify a durable property on the server.
- Retry or recreate after a bounded timeout when verification fails.
- Review orphan mode, routing-bucket lockdown, framework ownership, and cleanup behavior before enabling the change on a live server.
Key decision
If the vehicle is spawned next to an active player and does not need out-of-scope persistence, replacing the model argument in the existing server CreateVehicle call is usually sufficient. If the server must register the vehicle without a nearby player, replace the creation call with CreateVehicleServerSetter and build the state-bag ownership and verification flow around it. That distinction prevents the two most common failures: creation with no eligible owner and initialization that silently loses a race when ownership changes.
