To install a custom map on a BeamMP server, copy the map’s compressed .zip archive into the server’s Resources/Client directory, leave it compressed, and point ServerConfig.toml to the map’s internal level path ending in /info.json. Restart the server so it loads the resource. For example, a map whose folder inside the archive is myawesomedriftmap2021 uses Map = "/levels/myawesomedriftmap2021/info.json".

BeamMP treats a downloaded map as a client resource (a server-delivered mod). The archive must be placed directly in the server’s client-resource folder:

Do not extract the archive, rename its internal folders, or use the ZIP filename in the map setting. Open the ZIP only to inspect it. Under its levels directory, find the map’s actual level folder and copy that name exactly. In ServerConfig.toml, set:
Map = "/levels/<exact-level-folder>/info.json"
Restart BeamMP-Server after adding or replacing the ZIP. Client ZIP resources are loaded at startup; changing a file while the process is running does not reliably apply the change.

What you need before installing a map
- A map mod packaged as a ZIP archive containing a
levelsdirectory. A download intended only for another game version or another mod loader may not work. - A BeamMP server that has been started at least once. The first launch creates
ServerConfig.tomland the resource directories. - Access to the server’s working directory and permission to edit its TOML configuration.
- A map compatible with the BeamNG.drive version on the connecting computers and with the installed BeamMP version.
The default configuration uses ResourceFolder = "Resources". If you changed that setting, use the corresponding resource-folder location instead of assuming the directory is beside the executable. The client subfolder is still named Client, so the target is the configured resource folder followed by /Client.
How a BeamMP map archive is organized
The name shown on a download page is not necessarily the name BeamNG uses internally. A typical archive has a structure similar to:

└── info.jsonThe value required by the server is the path to info.json inside the archive: /levels/myawesomedriftmap2021/info.json. BeamMP resolves that virtual path after it loads the ZIP. It does not resolve a path based on map-download.zip.
Keep the archive intact. Extracting it into Resources/Client changes the resource layout BeamMP expects and is a common reason a map is ignored. Likewise, do not place the ZIP inside an extra folder such as Resources/Client/my-map/map.zip; the archive itself should be directly inside Client.
Step-by-step: install the custom map
1. Obtain and check the map ZIP
Download a BeamNG map mod from a source that permits server use and redistribution to players. Before copying it, verify that the archive contains a top-level levels directory. If it contains only vehicles, scenarios, or unrelated folders, it is not a complete level resource for the Map setting.

Compatibility matters more than the file extension. A map built for a different BeamNG.drive release can fail even when the ZIP structure looks correct, and a map can conflict with another mod already installed on the server or clients.

2. Copy the ZIP to the server
- Stop BeamMP-Server if you normally manage it as a service or terminal process. Stopping first prevents a restart from racing with a file copy.
- Open the server’s working directory and then the configured resource folder. With the default setting, open
Resources/Client. - Copy the map’s
.zipfile directly into that folder. - Leave the file compressed. Do not unpack it, and do not put it in
Resources/Serveror a nested subdirectory.
BeamMP’s server manual describes Resources/Client as accepting ZIP resources. The map archive in that folder is what joining players receive; the server does not need a second copy in the game installation directory.
3. Read the internal level folder name
Use an archive viewer that can browse a ZIP without extracting it. Open levels and identify the folder immediately below it. Copy the folder name character for character, including capitalization, numbers, and underscores. For example, if the archive contains levels/myawesomedriftmap2021/, the internal name is myawesomedriftmap2021.
Do not infer this value from the download filename. A file called Awesome-Drift-Map-v3.zip can contain a level folder with a completely different name.
4. Edit ServerConfig.toml
Open ServerConfig.toml in a plain-text editor. Find the existing Map entry and replace only its value. The final line must have this form:

Map = "/levels/myawesomedriftmap2021/info.json"
Keep the leading slash, use forward slashes, and include the /info.json suffix. The path is internal to the game resource; it is not a Windows path, Linux filesystem path, or ZIP filename. Save the TOML file without adding formatting characters or a second Map entry.
5. Restart BeamMP-Server
Start the server again after the ZIP and configuration are in place. BeamMP loads client ZIP resources when the server starts, so a live process will continue using its previous resource list until it is restarted.
Watch the console during startup and inspect Server.log for resource or map errors. Resolve an obvious load error before asking other players to test; otherwise their download attempt can obscure the original server-side problem.
6. Connect and confirm the download
Join the server from a client with the matching BeamNG.drive and BeamMP setup. BeamMP is designed to send the client resource to joining players automatically. The official setup guidance describes the expected result this way: “Now, when someone joins your server, it should download the map automatically and work as expected.”
For a same-computer test, use BeamMP Direct Connect to 127.0.0.1 and the port configured for the server. This isolates map installation from public-server discovery and lets you inspect the server console while connecting.

What belongs in the Map setting?
The Map value is a virtual level path. It points to the level’s internal info.json, not to the archive on disk. Stock maps and custom maps use the same path format, but only custom maps require a ZIP in Resources/Client.

For a stock level, select its existing path directly. For a modded level, BeamMP must have the corresponding ZIP before that path can resolve.
How to choose a map that will work on a server
Installation mechanics are identical across maps, but the practical server experience differs. Check these factors before deploying a large archive:

Troubleshooting a custom map that does not load
The server starts, but the map never appears
- Confirm the ZIP is directly inside
Resources/Client, not inside another directory. - Confirm the archive is still compressed. Remove an extracted copy and restore the original ZIP.
- Check that
ResourceFolderinServerConfig.tomlpoints to the folder you are actually using. - Restart BeamMP-Server after every resource replacement; startup is when client ZIPs are loaded.
The Map line looks right, but the level name is wrong
Reopen the archive and inspect the directory under levels. Copy that folder name exactly rather than copying the download title. A single missing underscore, changed letter, or incorrect case can point to a path that does not exist. The final setting must still end in /info.json.
You cannot determine the correct internal path
Install the map in single-player BeamNG.drive first and launch it successfully. Open the in-game system console with ~ (or the key bound to your console) and run:
print(getMissionFilename())
The returned mission filename reveals the path BeamNG is using. Use that returned path in the server’s Map setting, retaining the level path and info.json target required by BeamMP.
Players receive a join error after the map was added
BeamMP warns that mods can be incompatible with BeamNG, with BeamMP, or with one another. Temporarily remove the newly added map and any other recently installed resources, restart the server, and test again. If the server works without them, reintroduce resources one at a time until the conflicting archive is identified. Also verify that the joining client can run the map in single-player; a server cannot repair a map that fails locally.

Check the archive size, server connectivity, and whether the map is licensed for redistribution. Have a player remove an incomplete local copy and reconnect so BeamMP can request the resource again. If only one player is affected while others download successfully, compare that client’s BeamNG.drive and BeamMP versions before changing the server configuration.
Protected maps and restricted content
Some creators restrict how a mod is distributed. BeamMP documents a protectmod command for protected resources. Protection does not give players access by itself: players must obtain the protected file from the creator or another authorized source and place it in their launcher resources folder. Do not bypass a creator’s distribution controls or upload a protected file without permission.
Safe replacement and update procedure
When replacing a map with a newer archive, treat the change as a resource update rather than simply overwriting a file while the server runs:
- Stop the server.
- Back up the current ZIP and the existing
Mapline. - Remove the old archive from
Resources/Clientand copy in the replacement ZIP. - Inspect the replacement archive’s
levelsfolder. Its internal name may have changed even when the download’s public name did not. - Update
Mapto the new internal path if necessary. - Start the server and inspect the console or
Server.logbefore reconnecting players.
Keeping a backup lets you restore the previous archive and path if the update introduces a compatibility or mod-conflict problem.
