The safest route is to contact Nintendo support or an authorized Nintendo service center, not to open the console yourself. Nintendo says customers should not attempt to replace the Switch 2 battery, and its US safety guidance explicitly warns: “Do not disassemble, attempt to repair, or deform the battery.” An independent iFixit guide describes a DIY procedure, but it is not Nintendo-approved repair guidance.
What should you do if your Switch 2 battery needs replacement?
- Identify your region and product. Check the Nintendo support site for the country where your console is serviced. Repair options and instructions may differ by region.
- Contact Nintendo support or a service center. Nintendo Japan says Switch 2 console and controller batteries cannot be replaced by customers and directs owners to a Nintendo service center. In the US, use Nintendo’s Switch 2 Service Center page for service information.
- If the console is damaged, power it down. Nintendo advises disconnecting accessories and turning off a broken or damaged device, then contacting support. Do not continue using or charging a device with a damaged battery.
Nintendo UK’s general battery guidance says to check whether the specific product or model has a user-replaceable battery and to follow its product-specific instructions. That is regional guidance, not an instruction that Switch 2 owners everywhere may replace the battery themselves.

Why Nintendo advises against DIY battery replacement
Nintendo’s US Switch 2 health and safety guidance warns against disassembling, repairing, or deforming the battery to prevent battery leakage. Lithium-ion batteries can be hazardous if punctured, bent, crushed, or otherwise damaged during removal. Opening the console also requires taking apart the device rather than using an externally accessible battery compartment.
Nintendo Japan’s guidance is more specific about replacement: customers cannot replace the Switch 2 console or controller battery themselves, and should use a Nintendo service center. Follow the guidance for your region and ask Nintendo support about the service route available to you.

iFixit instructs readers to power off the console and discharge the battery below 25% before disassembly, reducing fire risk if the battery is damaged. That threshold is iFixit’s precaution for its repair procedure; it is not Nintendo guidance. The guide documents tools used in the repair, but this does not make DIY replacement the recommended option for owners seeking Nintendo-supported service.
