You can’t swap a video file in place on YouTube: a new upload gets a new URL. To preserve the existing video and playlist item where possible, open its copyright notice in YouTube Studio and use an available claim-specific edit—trim the claimed section, replace claimed audio with a YouTube Audio Library track, or erase or mute the song. If you must re-upload, add the new video to the playlist and check its position and playback before the next livestream; YouTube does not promise a seamless handover.
First identify what kind of copyright notice you have
Open YouTube Studio and inspect the affected video’s copyright notice and claim details. Check whether it is a Content ID claim, a copyright removal request, or a claim on an archived livestream. These are not interchangeable, and the available remedies differ.

- Content ID claim: Depending on the claim, the video may be blocked, monetized by a rights holder, or tracked. Effects can differ by country or region. A claim by itself is not a copyright strike.
- Copyright removal request or strike: Treat the notice according to the removal-request process shown in Studio; do not assume that the editing options for a Content ID claim resolve it.
- Livestream or archive issue: YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It can show a warning or placeholder, interrupt or terminate a stream if the material remains, and make a claim on an archived stream after it ends.
YouTube Help explains that Content ID claims are distinct from copyright removal requests: Understand Content ID claims.

Try editing the existing video before uploading a replacement
If the notice is a Content ID claim and the relevant action is available, editing the existing upload can avoid creating a new video identity. Open the claim details in YouTube Studio and review the offered options; availability depends on the claim and the material involved.

Trim out the claimed segment
Use the trim option if removing the section will leave a usable video. Preview the edit to confirm the claimed material is gone and the remaining video still works as intended.
Replace claimed audio
If the claim concerns music, Studio may let you replace the claimed audio with a track from the YouTube Audio Library. Preview the result and check that the replacement suits the whole affected passage.
Erase or mute the song
For a song claim, Studio may offer an erase or mute option. The claim clears only if the claimed material is successfully removed; check the result rather than assuming the action cleared it.
YouTube’s instructions for claim-related edits are at Remove claimed content from videos.
Back up and review carefully before saving
Keep a copy of the original source before editing, then preview the proposed result. Since June 2025, saved changes in YouTube Studio Editor can no longer be undone with “Revert to original,” according to YouTube Help. Treat saving as consequential: verify the edit first and retain your backup.

If you need a new upload, update the playlist manually
When the file itself needs to be re-rendered or the available Studio edits are not suitable, upload the corrected version. It will have a new URL; YouTube does not replace the old video file while keeping its URL.
- Prepare the corrected file. Confirm the edit addresses the claimed material and that you have the rights needed for the content you plan to use.
- Upload it as a new video. During YouTube’s upload flow, add the new upload to the relevant playlist, or add it afterward using playlist management.
- Check the playlist entry. In YouTube, open the playlist and confirm the new item is present, in the intended order, and plays correctly. Decide whether the old entry should remain or be removed based on your schedule and use case.
- Test before the next scheduled broadcast. Play through the relevant transition and confirm the playlist contains the intended version. This is a practical check, not a guarantee that a playlist livestream will switch seamlessly or continue without interruption.
YouTube’s upload guidance covers adding a video to a playlist: Upload videos. Its replacement guidance states that a video cannot be replaced and a new upload receives a new URL: Replace or delete your video.
Check livestream rights separately from the video edit
A change to the playlist or uploaded file does not establish that a livestream is safe to run. YouTube says all livestreams are scanned for matches to third-party content, and a stream can be interrupted or terminated if the material remains. Even licensed content may trigger an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. If you rely on licensed material, confirm the allowlisting with the rights owner before going live. YouTube’s policy is described at Copyright issues with live streams.
If you believe a Content ID claim is mistaken and you have the necessary rights, use the dispute route only when you can support that position. YouTube notes that automated Content ID cannot decide fair use; copyright exceptions vary by location and are case-specific. YouTube does not decide ownership or mediate ownership disputes. See Dispute a Content ID claim and Fair use on YouTube.
Troubleshooting before the playlist livestream
- The claim is still present after editing: Check whether any part of the claimed material remains. The claim clears only when the claimed content has been successfully removed; revisit the claim details and available editing actions.
- The corrected version does not appear in the livestream playlist: Confirm that the new upload was added to the exact playlist being used and check its position. A new URL means the old playlist item is not an in-place replacement.
- The livestream shows a warning or is interrupted: Review the live-stream notice and identify the material that triggered it. Remove or resolve the relevant material; if it is licensed, ask the rights owner to allowlist the channel through Content ID.
- You are unsure whether to dispute: Read the claim and claimant details first. A claim is not itself a strike, and disputing is appropriate only if you believe it is wrong and can establish the rights basis.
- You cannot start a livestream at all: YouTube’s setup guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check eligibility in Studio and see Get started with live streaming.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a playlist of uploaded videos that needs to stay live on YouTube, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It supports the video as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed; see StreamNeo for details. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
