To check an active YouTube livestream, open YouTube Studio → Create → Go live, select the current stream, and review Stream health and Stream status in Live Control Room. For age-related notices or other content restrictions, check the Studio Content page; if a stream has been interrupted or stopped, also check the dashboard for strikes and the channel’s email for YouTube’s notice. YouTube documents these as separate checks, not one panel that shows every restriction.
Check the active stream in Live Control Room
- Sign in to YouTube Studio using an account with access to the channel.
- Select Create → Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Select the current broadcast and inspect Stream health and Stream status. Stream status can include specific error messages and instructions. Follow the instruction attached to the status rather than assuming an error is a policy restriction. YouTube: See your live stream’s metrics.
A health or status error can indicate a transmission problem rather than a policy action. YouTube documents stream-health information separately from content restriction notices and account restriction emails, so use the relevant check below if you suspect a policy issue.

Check for age and other content restrictions
Age restriction
In Studio, open the Content page and look for “Viewable by 18+” under Notices. You can also apply the Age-Restriction filter. Age-restricted content is unavailable to viewers under 18 and signed-out viewers; YouTube’s age-restriction policy applies to livestreams as well. YouTube: Age-restricted content.
Other labels in the Restrictions column
On the Content page, the Restrictions column can identify categories such as copyright, age restriction, and made for kids. Hover over a listed restriction for more information or any available review option. This is a content-page workflow; YouTube does not say that every restriction detail for every active broadcast will necessarily appear there while it is live. Read the specific notice and its stated effect before concluding that the broadcast itself has been stopped. YouTube: Check your video’s restrictions.

If the stream is interrupted or stops
- Check Live Control Room for the stream’s current status and any instructions.
- Inspect the YouTube Studio dashboard for strikes. YouTube says copyright matching can trigger a warning and placeholder image; if third-party material remains in the broadcast, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams.
- Check the email address associated with the channel. YouTube says it emails creators when a live stream or channel is restricted; the message may explain the reason and appeal route. Follow the instructions in that notice. YouTube: Live stream restrictions.
A live-streaming restriction is different from a content label on one video. YouTube lists an active-stream copyright strike and matching another copyrighted live broadcast among possible reasons that live-streaming access may be temporarily or permanently turned off. Use the specific Studio notice or email to determine what happened and what response is available.
Know which kind of restriction you are checking
| What you suspect | Where to check | What it can mean |
|---|---|---|
| Transmission or stream-health problem | Live Control Room: Stream health and Stream status | A status message may provide an error and instructions; it is not necessarily a policy action. |
| Age restriction or content label | Studio Content page: Notices, Age-Restriction filter, or Restrictions column | A content or viewer-eligibility status; it does not by itself establish that the live transmission has stopped. |
| Copyright action during a live broadcast | Live Control Room, then Studio dashboard if interrupted or stopped | A match may produce a warning and placeholder; unresolved third-party material may lead to interruption or termination. |
| Channel-level live-streaming restriction | Studio dashboard and the channel’s restriction email | The notice should identify the action and any appeal instructions. |
When you cannot see a notice or control
- Check your channel role. Viewers can monitor streams while they are live, but editors and managers can manage live streams. If a control or detail is unavailable, confirm your channel permissions. YouTube: Channel permissions.
- Check the channel email. The relevant restriction may be communicated there even if you do not see a single live badge or a matching notice in the active-stream panel.
- Allowlist licensed third-party content. A licence alone may not prevent an interruption if the rights owner has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube advises creators using licensed third-party content to request allowlisting. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams.
Eligibility is not the same as diagnosing a current restriction
YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days to stream. That is background for eligibility; it does not tell you where a restriction on a current broadcast will appear. YouTube: Get started with live streaming.
