YouTube does not document a creator-side setting for repeating selected items within a live broadcast. For a do-it-yourself setup, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video Source with a playlist made from local media files: add only the videos you want, turn off shuffle, and turn on Loop Playlist. This repeats that sequence, but it does not keep your computer, internet connection, OBS, or broadcast running by itself.
What “repeat” means in a YouTube Live rotation
YouTube’s playlist-repeat controls are for viewers watching videos. On desktop, a viewer can loop a playlist; on Android, a viewer can also tap the loop control again to repeat the current video. Those controls change what that viewer watches. They are not a documented creator control for selecting which videos repeat inside a YouTube Live broadcast. For creator-controlled output, OBS’s VLC Video Source can play a list of media files. A playlist containing only your chosen files, with shuffle off and Loop Playlist on, repeats those files in the listed order. OBS documents this as a local-media workflow; it does not establish that a YouTube playlist URL can be pasted in as the source. OBS Project: Media Sources.

Set up selected-video looping with OBS and VLC
- Prepare the media. Obtain local video files you have the right to stream. Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video Source; OBS also notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If the source is missing, check that VLC is installed and matches OBS’s architecture.
- Add a VLC Video Source. In OBS, add a VLC Video Source to the scene you intend to stream. Add only the local files that belong in the rotation, then arrange them in the desired order. Do not rely on a YouTube playlist URL: OBS’s documented workflow is based on media files.
- Set the rotation behavior. Leave Shuffle Playlist off if you want a predictable sequence in the order listed. Turn on Loop Playlist to restart the source after it reaches the end of the media list. Shuffle controls order; Loop Playlist controls whether the list starts over.
- Connect OBS to your YouTube broadcast. Use your normal YouTube creator streaming setup to send OBS’s output to the intended live broadcast. Adding a VLC source configures media playback; it does not, by itself, create or start a YouTube stream.
- Test before relying on it. Watch the full sequence through its loop and verify the live output and connection. Confirm that every intended file plays in order and that the transition back to the first item works as expected.
Viewer playlist controls versus a creator’s live rotation

What looping does not protect against
Loop Playlist restarts the media sequence after it ends. It does not keep the computer powered on, prevent OBS or VLC from stopping, repair a network interruption, or guarantee that YouTube remains connected. Troubleshooting the rotation
- VLC Video Source is not available: Install VLC, then check that its architecture matches OBS. OBS specifically notes the 64-bit OBS and 64-bit VLC requirement.
- The files play in an unexpected order: Turn off Shuffle Playlist and review the order of the files in the source playlist.
- The list stops after the last file: Enable Loop Playlist. It is the setting that restarts the source after the media list finishes.
- The YouTube broadcast does not start: The VLC source handles media playback, not the complete broadcast connection. Check your normal OBS-to-YouTube streaming setup separately.
- The broadcast stops even though looping was enabled: Looping cannot prevent interruptions to the machine, OBS, network, or YouTube broadcast. Check the failed part of the streaming chain rather than treating the playlist setting as an uptime control.
