For a 720p, 30 fps YouTube live stream, set a progressive 1280×720 picture, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and RTMP or RTMPS. Use H.264 at YouTube’s recommended 8 Mbps video bitrate, or AV1/H.265 at 6 Mbps if your encoder supports it. For a 24/7 Punjabi music channel, the settings are only part of the job: confirm music rights and Content ID allowlisting, and plan for YouTube’s archive limit before choosing to run one continuous broadcast.
Recommended YouTube Live settings for 720p at 30 fps
YouTube’s live encoder guidance distinguishes between codecs, so select the bitrate that matches the codec you actually send. These are platform recommendations, not results from testing a particular encoder or internet connection. YouTube’s live settings page is the relevant reference; prerecorded-upload bitrate recommendations are for a different workflow.

For SDR, YouTube’s advanced guidance lists Rec. 709 color and 8-bit depth, as well as square pixels, two B-frames, one reference frame, and CABAC. These advanced encoder options may be labelled differently depending on the software or hardware; use them only where the encoder exposes a matching setting. YouTube says automatic resolution and frame-rate detection is the default and recommended approach. To select them manually, create a custom stream key and enable manual settings.
Set upload capacity with headroom
Measure outbound upload speed, not just download speed. YouTube says total streaming bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% room; shared networks may reduce the capacity available to your stream.

For example, an 8 Mbps H.264 video stream alone needs more capacity once audio is included. Applying a 20% reserve as a fraction of total capacity gives a 10 Mbps target for the 8 Mbps video alone (8 ÷ 0.8). Simply adding 20% to the video bitrate gives 9.6 Mbps, but that does not reserve 20% of total capacity. Use the stricter capacity calculation, then include audio and any backup feed. Check that sustained upload capacity, after reserving headroom, exceeds the combined stream bitrate. A momentary speed-test result does not establish that a connection will hold that rate continuously.
- Prefer a stable wired connection where practical and avoid saturating the same connection with other uploads.
- Run a preflight stream using audio and video movement similar to the real broadcast; watch YouTube’s stream-health messages while testing.
- Decide separately how you will detect a failed feed, restart or recover the encoder, and keep a local recording if you need an archive. YouTube’s general encoder guidance does not define a complete 24/7 failover design.
Choose between one continuous stream and shorter broadcasts
A continuous 24-hour broadcast is not a safe choice if you depend on YouTube’s automatic archive. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. If archived playback matters, consider shorter segments below 12 hours and/or a separate local recording, and verify your channel’s workflow. Breaking a broadcast into segments does not by itself guarantee uninterrupted playback for viewers.

Clear music rights before going live
YouTube scans live streams for matches with third-party content. If it detects copyrighted content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; continued third-party content can lead to interruption or termination. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a live stream.

For Punjabi recordings, check the rights for the actual tracks, territories, and uses rather than assuming that access to a song or a general licence covers a 24/7 live broadcast. YouTube’s terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content, including music licensing rights involving artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licences), and other royalty participants. The applicable scope depends on the works and licence terms.

If you have licensed third-party music, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A licence alone may not prevent an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Also confirm whether your rights cover both live streaming and any archive or on-demand playback you plan to retain.
Configure and test the encoder
- In YouTube Studio: create a live stream with an encoder using YouTube’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder guidance. Copy the stream key and ingest URL shown for that stream; keep the key private.
- In your encoder: enter the YouTube ingest details, select 1280×720 at 30 fps, choose H.264 at 8 Mbps or supported AV1/H.265 at 6 Mbps, and set CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS where available.
- Match the audio: choose AAC or MP3 and, for stereo, 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps as the recommended starting point. Make sure the selected encoder input actually contains the intended music and that levels are usable.
- Run a private or unlisted test: verify the picture, audio, stream health, and that the intended encoder settings are reaching YouTube. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it: check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and messages. Have a recovery plan for an encoder stop or lost connection; do not assume the platform’s encoder settings page provides automatic full-time failover.
Troubleshooting common problems
- Stream health reports insufficient bandwidth or the stream buffers: check sustained outbound upload capacity, reduce competing traffic, and ensure the total video, audio, and backup bitrate fits below capacity with headroom. Do not judge the connection by download speed alone.
- Video looks unstable or settings do not match the intended output: confirm the encoder is sending progressive 1280×720 at 30 fps and the codec-specific bitrate, CBR, and two-second keyframes. If manually selecting resolution, use a custom stream key with manual settings enabled.
- Audio is missing, distorted, or out of sync: check the selected input, encoder audio codec, stereo sample rate and bitrate, and that the source is playing correctly. Retest with the same audio path planned for the live channel.
- YouTube interrupts music playback or shows a copyright warning: review the detected track and rights documentation, then contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting. A licence that does not include the relevant work, territory, or use may not authorize the stream.
- A long-running stream has no archive: a broadcast exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Use a local recording and assess shorter segments if archived playback is required.
- The stream stops after an encoder or network failure: check the encoder, network, and YouTube messages, then restart according to your operating procedure. Build and test a separate recovery method rather than assuming a general YouTube setting will restart a failed 24/7 source.
