Repair or reset Teams in Windows 11
- Close Microsoft Teams if possible, then open Start > Settings.
- Go to Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Teams, select its More options menu, and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair if Windows offers it. Microsoft says Repair addresses app issues without losing data. Reopen Teams and check whether the issue is resolved.
- If Repair is unavailable or does not help, return to the same Advanced options page and select Reset. Reset returns the app to its default state and may remove app data.
Microsoft notes that not all desktop apps support repair or reset options. If Advanced options or either control is missing, Windows does not expose it for that Teams installation.

Repair or reset Teams in Windows 10
- Close Teams if possible, then open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select Microsoft Teams, then choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair first if it is available. Reopen Teams to check the result; if Repair is unavailable or ineffective, return to the app page and select Reset.
Repair is intended to preserve data. Reset returns the app to its default state and may remove app data; Microsoft’s general guidance does not specify exactly which Teams data a reset removes. Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Microsoft no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10 after that date; this does not change the Teams settings route.
What each option changes

If Repair or Reset is unavailable or does not work
Check for a Teams update
Microsoft says the desktop app updates automatically when an update is available and Teams is idle. If an update prompt appears, select Update > Update and restart Teams. Updating is another troubleshooting step, not a guarantee that the problem will be fixed.

Reinstall Teams if needed
Uninstalling and reinstalling is distinct from repairing or resetting. Microsoft’s uninstall guidance uses Windows Settings > Apps; its documented uninstall flow may also show a separate Teams Machine-Wide Installer entry. Do not treat removal of that entry as part of the Repair or Reset process. If this is a work or school device, check with your organization’s IT support before uninstalling or resetting Teams.
Do not assume one cache procedure fits every version
Microsoft mentions clearing the Teams cache for a particular immersive-spaces troubleshooting scenario, but the available guidance does not establish one cache-clearing procedure for every current Windows Teams version or installation type. Avoid applying a cache-folder path as universal advice.

Keep Teams reset separate from Windows recovery
The Reset button in Teams’ Advanced options applies to the app. Reset this PC, under Settings > System > Recovery in Windows 11, is a much broader recovery action that reinstalls Windows and can affect apps, settings, and personal files. Do not use it just to troubleshoot Teams.
