To remove widgets from the Windows 11 lock screen, open Start > Settings > Personalization > Lock screen. Under Widgets, use a widget’s more options menu to remove that item, or switch Widgets to Off to hide the entire set.
Remove one widget or hide all of them
Windows provides two choices, depending on how much you want to change. Microsoft documents both in its Customize the Lock Screen in Windows guide.

Steps in Windows Settings
- Select Start, then open Settings.
- Go to Personalization > Lock screen.
- Find the Widgets section and review the widgets listed there.
- To remove only one, open the more options menu beside that widget and select the remove option. The menu may also provide customization when the widget’s provider supports it.
- To hide all lock-screen widgets, set the Widgets switch to Off.
What the setting changes—and what it does not
This setting controls widgets on the lock screen; it does not turn off the Widgets experience everywhere in Windows. Widgets can also appear on the taskbar and in the Widgets board. Microsoft says lock-screen widgets can show current weather and other information. Content may be tailored using an estimated location from Windows Location service, if enabled, or otherwise the internet connection’s IP address.
For administrators managing devices
Microsoft Learn documents a device policy named DisableWidgetsOnLockScreen, mapped to Computer Configuration > Windows Components > Widgets. Enabling the policy prevents widgets from appearing on the lock screen; when it is disabled or unconfigured, users can manage them in Settings. Microsoft lists Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise / IoT Enterprise LTSC as supported editions.

There is an important qualification: Microsoft’s policy documentation warns that some settings in this CSP are under development and apply only to Windows Insider Preview builds. Administrators should verify that this policy applies to their managed build before deployment. See Microsoft Learn’s Policy CSP – NewsAndInterests (last updated 2025-10-03). This is an administrator route, not the usual home-user method.
