The steps depend on your device: Windows has a documented switch to hide the time and date from the taskbar’s system tray, while Android’s clock controls vary by device and version. On macOS and iOS, a built-in clock-only switch is not verified here. Choose the section for your operating system rather than treating “status bar” as one universal setting.
How do I hide the time from the taskbar in Windows?
Windows lets you remove both the time and date from the system tray. Open Settings > Time & language > Date & time, then turn off Show time and date in the System tray. To restore them, turn that switch on. The exact wording can vary by Windows version. Microsoft also documents a shortcut: right-click the taskbar clock and select Adjust date and time. This changes the visible clock and date, not the device’s timekeeping. If you use Windows 10, note that Microsoft ended its support on October 14, 2025; hiding the clock does not affect that support status. Microsoft’s lifecycle page has the support details.
How can an administrator hide the clock on managed Windows devices?
On managed Windows devices, an administrator can use the Group Policy setting Remove Clock from the system notification area, under User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar. Enabling the policy hides the clock. If it is disabled or not configured, the clock remains displayed by default. This is an administrative policy rather than the standard user setting. A separate policy can hide the entire notification area, including notification icons. That is broader than removing the clock alone, so it is not the right choice if you want to keep those icons visible.
Can I remove the time from the Android status bar?
It depends on the Android version and device maker. Android Open Source Project SystemUI resources include a clock display option labeled “Don’t show this icon.” That confirms the framework contains such an option, but does not establish that it appears in Settings on every phone or build. The source can be checked in the Android Open Source Project SystemUI strings; it is not a universal set of user instructions.

Look in your device’s display, status-bar, or notification settings, and confirm instructions against your exact phone model and Android version. Current manufacturer-specific routes are not verified here, so a menu path for one phone may not apply to another.

Why immersive mode is different
Android apps can dim or temporarily hide system bars while showing immersive content. This affects the system bars during that app experience; it does not remove only the clock across the device. Android Developers explains the distinction in its guide to immersive mode.

What about the clock in the macOS menu bar or iPhone status bar?
The macOS menu bar and iPhone status bar are different from Windows’ system tray and Android’s status bar. A supported built-in option to hide only the clock on macOS or iOS is not verified here, so no clock-removal steps can be stated reliably for those platforms.
