Chrome uses different controls for site shortcuts and recommended articles. On desktop, hide the shortcut row with Customize Chrome > Shortcuts > Show shortcuts. On Android, turn off My shortcuts for sites or switch off the Discover feed for recommended articles.
First identify what you want to remove
“Suggestions” can mean website shortcuts, recommended articles, or other New Tab page content. The controls vary by device, so use the option that matches what you see:

Hide or remove shortcuts on desktop
Hide the entire shortcut row
- Open a new tab in Chrome.
- At the lower right, click Customize Chrome.
- Under Shortcuts, turn off Show shortcuts.
Google’s desktop customization guidance says you need to be signed in to a Google Account and have Google set as your default search engine for these options. On managed devices, an administrator may also configure shortcuts, including shortcuts to Drive files. Google Chrome Help

Remove just one site or change the shortcut list
To remove one item, point to its icon, click More, then select Remove. To change its name or web address instead, select Edit shortcut. In the Shortcuts section, you can also choose My shortcuts or Most visited sites to change how Chrome selects the displayed shortcuts. Google Chrome Help Google Workspace Learning Center

Hide shortcuts on Android
- Open Chrome and go to a New Tab page.
- Tap More > Customize new tab page.
- Turn off My shortcuts to hide the shortcut row.
To remove only one shortcut, touch and hold it, then tap Remove. Android custom shortcuts do not sync to other devices. If you cannot add a shortcut later, Google advises checking that its URL is correct and that the shortcut does not already exist. Google Chrome Help
Turn off recommended articles on Android
Turning off site shortcuts does not switch off article recommendations. For articles in the Discover feed:

- On a New Tab page, tap More > Customize new tab page.
- Open Discover feed and turn it off.
To remove only one recommendation, open that article’s menu and tap Hide this. If you would rather adjust the feed than disable it, use its Interests controls or mark a topic or publisher as not interesting. Google says recommendations for signed-in users may be based on recent Web & App Activity and interactions with articles, depending on account settings. Google Chrome Help
