Handle stubborn scuffs and stains cautiously
A clean damp cloth or a material-suitable cleaner and soft brush are the sensible first options for surface marks. Nike’s Austria article mentions a Magic Eraser for white leather shoes, but that does not establish safety for every leather coating or finish. Do not use bleach on leather or suede. Nike specifically warns against bleach on delicate materials such as these; canvas-whitening advice should not be carried over to leather.
There is no one stain-specific home recipe established here for ink, oil, or dye transfer across all leather finishes. For a persistent mark—or a valuable pair—consult the shoe and cleaner instructions or ask a leather-care professional. Discoloration that remains may be finish damage or a set stain rather than surface dirt, and cleaning cannot be assumed to restore the original color.

Cleaning scuffs is different from treating yellowed soles
A white leather upper and a yellowed rubber or plastic sole are different cleaning problems. Sole yellowing may be oxidation rather than dirt. Jason Markk says UV exposure can accelerate oxidation and that it may not be possible to reverse once it has occurred, although regular cleaning can still remove dirt and stains: care-kit FAQ.

Keep white sneakers cleaner between wears
- Clean dirt promptly before it builds up.
- Store shoes away from dirt, moisture, and excessive sunlight.
- If you use a stain-repellent spray, check that it is compatible with your shoe’s finish and follow its directions. Jason Markk recommends its Repel Spray for helping protect sneakers against future stains, but that recommendation does not establish compatibility with every leather finish.
What about tougher Superstar leather?
adidas US attributes this statement to Charlie Kirihara, its color and material designer: “The leather on most Superstars is tough enough to go through quite a bit of scrubbing and not show any scratches or scuffs.” That statement is specific to the leather on most adidas Superstars; it is not a reason to scrub other leather sneakers hard.
