I replaced my Samsung Galaxy’s usual app-grid home screen with a TV-style launcher, and the simpler layout makes my phone feel calmer. That is my subjective experience, not proof that a launcher reduces screen time or improves wellbeing. Before trying the same change, check whether the exact TV launcher supports your Galaxy: one app listing reviewed here includes a developer warning that it is not suitable for mobile phones.
What changes when you replace a Galaxy home screen
One UI Home is Samsung’s official launcher for Galaxy phones. It provides the home and apps screens, supports gestures, and includes an option to lock the layout. Samsung’s Google Play listing describes it as the “official Samsung launcher for Galaxy,” while noting that features can differ by device and operating-system version. Its feature notes include requirements for Android 9.0 Pie or later, but the listing was updated September 5, 2019, so those notes should not be taken as a complete description of current One UI releases. A launcher is the app that presents the phone’s home screen and app access. A TV launcher may arrange content or app tiles for a television interface, but that design alone does not establish that it works well on a touchscreen phone. The practical change is therefore not simply “fewer icons”: it can affect how you reach apps, interact with gestures, and use widgets or Samsung-specific features.

You may not need another app to make your Galaxy’s home screen less busy. Samsung’s One UI guidance describes moving apps, adding widgets, and switching between the Home and Apps screens with an upward or downward swipe. Google’s general Android guidance says to touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen and tap Home settings; it also explains changing favorite apps. Google cautions that steps can vary by phone, so this is not a universal Samsung launcher-installation route.

- Remove visual clutter: move or remove home-screen app shortcuts you do not need at a glance.
- Keep essentials easy to reach: arrange your most-used apps or favorites where they are convenient.
- Use fewer screens or widgets: retain only the information and shortcuts you actually want visible.

Why a TV launcher may not suit a Samsung phone
TV-oriented software is not automatically a phone launcher. The Google Play listing for TV Launcher – Smart TV BOX describes a smart-TV launcher and mentions options such as custom wallpaper, app backgrounds, focus backgrounds, and remote-control sounds. Although the listing displays phone and TV device categories, a developer response to a user says: “This is a TV launcher, not suitable for mobile phones.” The listing showed an update date of June 25, 2026; compatibility and support can change, so check the current listing and your own device rather than treating its category labels as a guarantee. Do not confuse that kind of third-party app with Google’s Android TV Launcher. Google describes that app as a way to control an Android TV entertainment device and provide a content-centered starting point for activities on that device. That stated purpose is not evidence that it should replace a Galaxy phone’s home screen. How to decide whether the switch is worth trying
Compare the launcher you are considering with your current One UI Home on the phone you actually use. Do not assume a TV-style layout is simpler in practice until you can reach your apps comfortably and confirm that key behaviors still work.

- Compatibility: check the app’s current listing and support information against your exact Galaxy model and Android/One UI version.
- Readability and access: make sure labels and tiles are legible and that frequently used apps are easy to open.
- Navigation: test gestures and other navigation habits you rely on; an interface designed for a remote may behave differently on a touchscreen.
- Features: check which widgets and Samsung-specific options you retain or lose when another launcher is active.
- Your own experience: notice whether the layout changes how you use the phone or simply feels less cluttered to you.
If you decide to try a different launcher, verify the installation source and the default-home-app selection on your own phone. Samsung’s and Google’s published guidance establishes customization options, but it does not provide one current default-launcher menu path that applies to every Galaxy model and software version. Menu labels and app compatibility can vary.

For me, the TV-style home screen feels calmer because it changes the visual experience of opening the phone. That is a personal impression.
