To remove an app from a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet, touch and hold it on the Apps screen and tap Uninstall if that option appears. For some preinstalled apps, choose Disable instead. If neither action is available, you may be able to hide the app icon—but hiding does not remove the app from the device.
Uninstall a Samsung app you can remove
- Open the Apps screen and touch and hold the app you want to remove.
- Tap Uninstall, then confirm if prompted. Samsung’s Galaxy app-management instructions use this route, though the confirmation screen may differ.
If Uninstall is not shown, the app may be preinstalled and protected from removal. Samsung notes that some preloaded apps cannot be uninstalled.

Uninstall, disable, and hide: what each option does

Clearing an app’s data is different from uninstalling it: it resets the app’s settings and stored information rather than removing the app.
Disable a preinstalled app
If a preinstalled app cannot be uninstalled, check whether Disable is available. Samsung gives this Settings route:

- Open Settings and tap Apps.
- Select the app.
- Tap Disable if the option appears, and confirm if prompted.
Some system apps cannot be uninstalled or disabled because the device needs them to operate. If Disable is absent or unavailable, do not assume the app can safely be removed another way.
Hide an app when you cannot uninstall or disable it
Samsung’s UK instructions describe hiding an app from the Home and Apps screens when it cannot be deleted. Open the Apps screen, use its More menu, and choose the hide-apps setting; select the app and apply the change. Menu names and layout can vary, so follow the labels shown on your Galaxy device. Hiding only removes the icon from those screens; it does not uninstall or disable the app.

Enable an app again or reinstall it
Re-enable an app you disabled
- Open Settings > Apps.
- Select the disabled app.
- Tap Enable.
Reinstall an app you uninstalled
If you originally got the app from an app store, check that store’s library or apps list and reinstall it if it is available there. Samsung’s app-management support covers restoring apps; the available steps depend on where the app came from.

If these problems began after installing third-party apps, Samsung recommends checking for suspicious apps with Device care diagnostics or reviewing installed apps manually under Settings > Apps. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance notes that steps and notifications can vary by Android version. Review unfamiliar or recently installed apps and uninstall any you do not want if the device offers that option.

Why the options or menus may differ
Whether an app can be uninstalled, disabled, or only hidden depends on the app and device. Samsung’s US guidance says available screens and settings can vary by carrier, software version, and model; its UK instructions also note that names and layouts can vary with the model, software, and app version.
