Google reviews each request under its policies; removal from Search does not delete the information from the website hosting it.
Choose the right route for the problem
The right request depends on whether the information is still on the source page, whether it may qualify under Google’s policies, or whether Google is showing an old version of a page that has already changed.

How to request removal from Google Search
1. Record the exact result
Search for your name and, if useful, a city or address to find the result. Copy the precise URL and note what personal information the page displays. Google reviews the URLs submitted, so a request for one result should not be treated as a universal removal of every page or copy.

2. Submit the request that fits
For personal contact information, start with Results about you: add the name and personal information you want monitored, review matching results, and request removal for eligible links. Google also describes a Search-result reporting flow and a detailed request form for some situations, including requests about someone under 18. Availability and interface details can vary by market, so follow the options currently shown in Google’s Help page.

For other covered personal information or a doxxing concern, use Google’s private-information removal guidance to select the appropriate request route. Submit the relevant URLs and explain the information shown rather than assuming one report covers every location where it appears.
3. Allow for a policy review
Submitting a form does not guarantee removal. Google assesses whether the request meets its policies, and may consider whether the information is valuable to the public. Its examples of material that may raise public-interest concerns include government and educational pages and newspapers; broader guidance also discusses business websites. If Google approves a request, it may remove the result for all searches or only for searches that include the person’s name, depending on the content.

4. Contact the site if the information is still live
Ask the website owner or platform to remove or correct the page itself. Google explains: “While we can prevent content from appearing in our search results, we can’t remove it from websites that host it.” A result removed from Google may still be accessible through a direct or shared link, social media, or another search engine. What information may qualify?
Google’s policies allow requests concerning certain personal information, but each request is reviewed rather than automatically granted. Categories described in Google’s guidance include:

- Personal contact details such as a home address, phone number, or email address.
- Certain government identification numbers, bank or credit-card numbers, images of a signature or ID, private records, and confidential usernames or passwords.
- Doxxing situations involving personal information paired with explicit or implicit threats, calls to harm or harass, or substantial aggregated personal information shared without a legitimate purpose.
The Results about you workflow is specifically for contact information matching the requester. Google says it may decline requests when information is considered valuable to the public. These categories indicate what may be reviewed, not a promise that every result containing such information will be removed.
If Google still shows information that was deleted or changed
When a source page has already been updated or removed but Google Search continues to show its old information, submit the affected URL through Refresh Outdated Content. This route addresses stale Search information; it is not a substitute for asking a site to change a page that remains live. Google says there is no need to fill out the form if the live page has already been updated.

When to use a legal request
If your concern is based on a law or a jurisdiction-specific right rather than Google’s personal-information or doxxing policies, use Google’s legal request route described in its content policies. Legal grounds and outcomes depend on local law and the facts; filing a request does not guarantee acceptance.
What removal from Search means
Google Search removal changes whether a result appears in Google’s results; it does not erase the underlying page. To address the source, contact its owner or platform. Google’s outside-of-Search removal guidance explains this distinction.

Google’s reviewed Help guidance does not state a removal success rate or a typical processing time. Do not rely on a promised timeline or assume approval until the result’s status is clear.
