First identify which control is failing: Android’s system Back gesture or button, Brave’s on-screen back or forward control, or both. Then update Brave, restart the app, and test another site before removing any data. These checks can narrow down the problem without assuming every navigation failure has the same cause.
Identify which navigation control is failing
Android system navigation and Brave’s page-history controls are different. The system Back gesture or button belongs to Android; Brave’s in-browser controls move through pages in the current tab’s history. Check the forward control separately: it can only go forward when that tab has a page in its history to return to.

- Try Android’s system Back gesture or button, then Brave’s on-screen back control.
- Check whether Brave’s forward control responds after you navigate back from a page.
- Note whether the problem affects one site or several, and whether it remains after closing and reopening Brave.

Try the low-risk checks first
Update Brave and restart
- Open Google Play, find Brave, and install an available update.
- Fully close Brave, reopen it, and test navigation again. If it still fails, restart the phone and retry.

Compare another site and tab
Open a different site in a different tab and check the same control. If the failure occurs only on one site, that is useful diagnostic information, but it does not by itself show why the control failed. If it happens across sites, record that distinction before contacting support.
Clear browsing data only if you choose the data carefully
Brave lets you select data types and a time range rather than clearing everything. To reach the controls, open Menu → Settings → Brave Shields and Privacy → Clear browsing data. Review the selections before confirming: deletion cannot be undone. Avoid selecting history, passwords, or other data unless you intend to remove them. Leave app storage clearing and reinstalling until later
Clearing app data or uninstalling Brave is more destructive than clearing selected browsing data. Android Help includes clearing an app’s cache or data among general troubleshooting options, but app data is erased when an app is uninstalled. Brave warns that uninstalling and reinstalling creates a fresh mobile installation and deletes Brave data, including Rewards data and wallet information. If other apps work but Brave’s navigation still fails after updating and restarting, Android Help recommends contacting the app developer. Brave directs Android users to its support community. Brave support and installation guidance.

Include the details that help distinguish the symptom: phone model, Android version, Brave version, which control fails, whether it affects one site or several, and what you have already tried. This makes it clearer whether the report concerns Android system navigation or Brave’s own page-history controls.
