If you only want a different card to be used by default, change the default instead; that leaves the other cards in Wallet.
Remove a payment card from iPhone
- Open the Wallet app and tap the payment card you want to remove.
- Tap the More button, then tap Card Details.
- Scroll down and tap Remove Card.
Apple notes that iOS 15 and earlier may not show the Card Details step as described. If the controls differ, check the iOS version and use the options available on that device. Apple’s card-removal instructions

Replace a card or change which one is the default
“Replace” can mean two different things. If the old card should no longer be available on this iPhone, remove it using the steps above, then add the replacement card to Wallet if needed. If you simply want another card selected automatically for Apple Pay, change the default card instead.

On iPhone, open Wallet, touch and hold the card you want as the default, then drag it in front of the other cards. Apple says the first payment card added to Wallet on a device becomes its default. Remove the card from another Apple device
Payment cards are managed separately on each device. Removing a payment card from iPhone does not remove it from Wallet on the user’s other devices. Use the control for the device where you want the card removed:
- iPad or Apple Vision Pro: Go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay, select the card, then tap Remove Card.
- Apple Watch: Open Wallet on the watch, select the card, scroll down, then tap Remove.
- Mac with Touch ID: Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older software) > Wallet & Apple Pay, select the card, then choose Remove.
Menu labels can vary by operating-system version. Apple’s device-specific removal steps cover these devices.

Check what kind of Wallet item you mean
Payment card
The steps in this article remove a debit or credit payment card from Apple Pay on a specific device. If you sign out of iCloud in Settings, Apple says all Apple Pay credit and debit cards are removed from that iPhone; you can add them again after signing back in. Pass
Tickets, boarding passes, and other Wallet passes are not payment cards. Apple’s iPhone guide says deleting a pass from iPhone permanently removes it from Wallet on the user’s other devices, so do not assume the per-device behavior for payment cards applies to passes. Transit card or Express Mode
If your goal is to change which compatible transit card or pass works with a tap, check its Express Mode setting rather than removing a regular payment card. Apple documents Express Mode as a separate Wallet setting for compatible transit cards, passes, and keys. Apple Support: Use Express Mode with transit cards, passes, and keys in Apple Wallet

If you cannot remove or use the card
- Lost or stolen iPhone: Marking the device as lost automatically turns off Apple Pay on that device. For help with the payment card itself, contact the card issuer. Apple Support
- Card will not add or work with Apple Pay: Apple Pay requires a supported card from a participating issuer, and availability varies by market. Check card compatibility with the issuer. Apple Support
