If Meta AI said something false about you, first identify where the problem lives: in a generated answer, a conversation or remembered detail, or personal information Meta maintains. Each calls for a different remedy. Meta describes tools to report inaccurate responses, delete AI messages from conversations, and—in some supported experiences—remove remembered details. Privacy-law correction or deletion rights may also apply, depending on where you live. None of these is documented as a universal way to edit Meta AI’s general knowledge or guarantee every future answer will be accurate.
Identify what you want corrected or removed
Write down which Meta app or feature produced the problem, the exact wording, and when it appeared. Then match it to the issue below. A generated answer, a saved conversation, an AI memory, and a personal-data record are not interchangeable.

If Meta AI generated a false answer
Use the feedback option shown with the response, if one is available, and include the exact statement and relevant context. Save a copy of the response and note the date and app or surface where it appeared. Meta acknowledges that generative AI can produce inaccurate or inappropriate outputs in its responsible AI explainer. Feedback is a way to report an error, not a guaranteed correction of information about you; verify important claims independently and do not rely on a chatbot response for consequential decisions.
If you want to delete AI messages from a chat
Meta’s official privacy explainer says you can type /reset-ai in a conversation to delete AI messages in that conversation across Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Use the command in the conversation where the AI interaction occurred, and check the product’s current Help Center if the command is not recognized or the interface has changed. Meta’s description concerns AI messages in the conversation; it does not say that the command deletes all data Meta may hold, clears a separate memory, or reverses any use of information to improve products. If Meta AI remembered something about you
Look for memory controls in the specific Meta AI experience and remove the detail there if those controls are available. Meta’s January 27, 2025 announcement described deletion of certain remembered details in supported one-to-one chats. That announcement said the feature was gradually rolling out for Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp on iOS and Android in the United States and Canada. It does not provide current, universal menu instructions for every app or region, so availability and labels may differ. Clearing a conversation should not be assumed to clear a memory: treat them as separate controls.
If Meta holds inaccurate personal information
Use the privacy-rights route available for your country through Meta’s United States Regional Privacy Notice or the Privacy Center. Meta’s US notice describes a right to request correction or deletion of personal information through a webform. Whether that right applies, what information it covers, and the correct submission route depend on your location and circumstances. The cited notice is a US-specific source, not proof of a universal form or eligibility elsewhere. Keep a copy of what you submit and follow the instructions shown for your location; do not assume a privacy request will alter a generated answer.

Understand what Meta says it may use
Meta’s Privacy Matters explainer, originally published September 27, 2023 and updated November 21, 2025, says publicly shared Facebook and Instagram posts were included in training data and private posts were not. Meta also says messages people choose to share with AI may be used to train its AIs. It says information shared in AI interactions may be retained for personalization or product improvement, and certain questions may be shared with trusted partners such as search providers. These are Meta’s statements about the uses described in that explainer; they should not be read as a claim about every Meta system or data practice.
For group chats, Meta says its conversational AI reads messages that invoke @Meta AI or reply to it, not other messages. That statement is about the described conversational AI feature, not every Meta product or processing activity.

Personalization settings are not correction tools
Meta said in October 2025 that it would begin using AI interactions to personalize content and ad recommendations after December 16, 2025, in most regions. It described cross-product use for accounts a person chooses to add to the same Accounts Center. In a June 9, 2026 announcement, Meta said information already shared with it by businesses may also be used to personalize Feed content and AI responses. It described an expanded Activity from other businesses setting to manage that use, with rollout beginning in the United States and a number of other countries and more countries to follow. These announcements concern personalization and use of activity data; Meta does not describe those settings as ways to correct a false answer already generated.

What to do if the problem remains
- Keep the evidence: Save the wording, date, and app or feature where the error appeared.
- Choose the matching remedy: Report a generated answer, use
/reset-aifor AI messages in a conversation, use an available memory control for a remembered detail, or submit a privacy request for maintained personal information. - Check the current controls: Review Meta’s Privacy Center and the settings or Help Center for the app and country involved. Names, availability, and procedures can change as features roll out.
- Verify important information elsewhere: Do not treat a report, deletion control, or privacy request as confirmation that an AI answer has been corrected.
