How to Remove AI Action Chips from Chrome’s New Tab Page

Disable NTP Next Features in Chrome flags to remove New Tab Page AI action chips. If they remain, try related flags or per-chip dismissal where available.

To remove the “Do more with AI Mode” and “Create images” chips from Chrome’s New Tab Page, open chrome://flags/#ntp-next-features, set NTP Next Features to Disabled, and relaunch Chrome. This experimental flag may not appear or behave the same way in every Chrome build.

Disable the New Tab Page AI action chips

  1. In Chrome, enter chrome://flags/#ntp-next-features in the address bar and press Enter.

  2. Find NTP Next Features. Chromium describes it as enabling features “(e.g., AI action chips) in NTP Next” (Chromium Project).

  3. Open the setting’s menu and choose Disabled.

  4. Select Relaunch when Chrome prompts you. The change takes effect after the browser restarts.

This is the main removal method reported by AskVG’s September 26, 2026 how-to. Because Chrome flags are experimental, the labels and available choices can vary by build.

Dismiss suggestions individually instead

If your flags page offers Enabled – Allow Disable for NTP Next Features, the AskVG guide reports that you can right-click a chip (or open its context menu) and choose Disable suggestions. This is a per-suggestion option rather than disabling the New Tab Page features wholesale; it may not be present in your build.

If the chips are still visible

Try the related flags as troubleshooting options, not guaranteed fixes. In chrome://flags, search for each name, change its setting to Disabled, and relaunch Chrome:

AskVG recommends these as broader fallbacks when disabling NTP Next Features does not remove the chips. Its comments include a report that the primary flag alone did not work, so results can differ between installations.

Why the setting may differ in your Chrome

These controls are experimental flags, not guaranteed permanent settings. Chromium’s source documents their names and purpose, but does not establish their rollout or availability in every Chrome version. AskVG lists Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android, but current availability across all platforms and releases has not been independently verified. Use the labels shown in your own chrome://flags page; if a named flag is absent, that build does not expose it there.
