A Samsung Knox Guard (KG) lock is managed by the organization that enrolled the phone—not an ordinary screen lock. The authorized way to remove it is to have that organization, such as the financer, seller, or administrator, resolve the device’s status and unlock it through its Knox Guard console. In some cases, an administrator can instead provide a PIN Unlock for an offline phone.
What a KG lock means
“KG lock” is shorthand commonly used for a lock applied through Samsung Knox Guard. Samsung describes Knox Guard as a cloud service that lets approved organizations manage Samsung devices remotely, including locking and unlocking them. It is not a normal PIN, password, or pattern that the phone’s user can remove in Settings. Samsung Knox Guard documentation

A lock may relate to an installment or subscription account, a lost or stolen device, or another condition configured by the managing organization. The organization’s administrator can check the device’s status. A message containing “KG” alone is not enough to establish why the phone is locked or whether every such message reflects the same condition. Samsung Knox Guard documentation Knox Guard how-to guides

Read the complete lock-screen message and note any organization name, contact details, or instructions. Distinguish a Knox Guard message from a carrier or SIM restriction and from the phone’s ordinary screen lock. If the message is unclear, ask Samsung support or the organization that supplied or manages the device to identify the restriction; do not assume that “KG” shorthand by itself confirms the lock type.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

- Financed or subscription phone: Contact the financer or seller shown in your agreement or account.
- Work or organization phone: Contact the IT or device administrator responsible for it.
- Used phone: Contact the seller promptly and ask them to work with the original managing organization or account holder.
How to get an authorized unlock
For an installment or subscription phone
- Contact the financer or seller and ask which account or device status is keeping Knox Guard active.
- Resolve any outstanding payment or other issue they identify, and ask them to confirm the device is in good standing.
- Request that the Knox Guard administrator unlock the device in the organization’s console. Samsung’s documentation describes unlocking managed devices through that administrative route. Samsung Knox Guard documentation Knox Guard how-to guides
For a phone bought used
Ask the seller to resolve the enrollment or status with the original organization or account holder; a secondhand buyer generally cannot perform that administrator action. Keep your receipt, listing, messages, proof of payment, and the phone’s IMEI or serial number available for the seller’s support process. Samsung’s administrator documentation describes searching devices by IMEI or approval ID, but does not establish a universal consumer dispute or refund procedure. Knox Guard how-to guides
If you have paid but the phone is still locked
Ask the financer or seller to verify both that the account and device are in good standing and that the unlock action was completed in its console. If they cannot resolve it, request the next escalation route from that organization. Samsung’s materials describe the administrator unlock workflow; they do not establish a universal consumer escalation outcome. Samsung Knox Guard documentation Knox Guard how-to guides

When an administrator offers PIN Unlock
PIN Unlock is an administrator-mediated option for a device that is offline. The user shares the passkey shown on the lock screen with the administrator, who generates a PIN for the user to enter on the phone. Follow the administrator’s instructions rather than trying a PIN from an unrelated source. Samsung Knox Guard documentation
For devices with hardened security architecture, Samsung says the phone must reconnect to the Knox Guard server within 24 hours after the PIN Unlock; otherwise it may lock again. Restore internet connectivity promptly, and avoid restarting the phone before it reconnects. This 24-hour window applies to the specified device category, not necessarily every Knox Guard phone. Why resets and flashing are not reliable removal methods
Knox Guard can restrict USB, Bluetooth, NFC, software updates, factory reset, and binary flashing. Samsung’s documentation does not present attempting those restricted actions as an authorized consumer method for removing the lock. A reset or firmware procedure should not be treated as a substitute for an administrator unlock. Samsung Knox Guard documentation
Samsung documents “Complete device management” as an administrator action that removes policies and deactivates the Knox Guard client. It is not a general-purpose user bypass. Samsung Knox Guard documentation

Choosing the right next step
| Your situation | Best next step |
|---|---|
| You can reach the financer, seller, or administrator, and the device can connect online. | Ask the organization to check the device status and perform the console unlock. |
| The phone is financed or subscribed, and the organization reports an account issue. | Resolve the identified account issue, then request confirmation of the administrator unlock. |
| The phone is offline and the administrator offers PIN Unlock. | Use the passkey/PIN workflow the administrator provides; on applicable hardened-security devices, reconnect within the documented 24-hour window. |
| You bought the phone used and cannot reach its original manager. | Ask the seller to resolve its enrollment or status; preserve transaction records and device identifiers for the seller’s support process. |
Be cautious of unofficial bypass offers
Samsung’s published procedures support administrator-managed unlocking and the PIN workflow described above. They do not establish that third-party bypass services can remove a Knox Guard lock reliably or permanently. Prefer the organization responsible for the device rather than sharing payment or device information with an unverified service.
