Save your car’s location in a map app as soon as you park. On iPhone, Apple Maps can mark it automatically after your phone disconnects from the car’s Bluetooth or CarPlay system; Google Maps also documents automatic saving on iPhone. On Android, save the spot manually in Google Maps. In a garage or large lot, add a note or photo with the floor, aisle, or stall: a map pin may not tell you which level to search.
Choose the method that fits your phone
- iPhone with a paired car system: Apple Maps can drop a parked-car marker when you disconnect from Bluetooth or CarPlay and leave the vehicle.
- iPhone using Google Maps: Google documents automatic parking saves, as well as a manual save option.
- Android: Google Maps’ documented method is to save the location manually from the blue location dot.
- Multilevel garage or large lot: Whichever app you use, add a photo or a note identifying the floor, section, stall, or a nearby landmark.
Save your parking spot on iPhone
Apple Maps: automatic parked-car marker
- Pair your iPhone with the car through Bluetooth or CarPlay, and make sure Maps is allowed to display the parked-car location.
- After parking, disconnect from the car and exit. Apple says, “Maps drops a parked car marker when you disconnect your iPhone from your car’s Bluetooth or CarPlay system and exit your vehicle.” Apple’s instructions for finding your parked car also note that familiar locations such as home or work are not marked.
- When you return, open Maps and select the parked-car marker to get directions.
If the marker does not appear, check that the parked-car display setting is enabled and that the iPhone connected to the car before you left. Without that connection and disconnection, the described trigger may not occur.

Google Maps: automatic or manual save
Google says, “To help you find where you left your car, Maps automatically saves your parking location.” Its iPhone and iPad instructions describe Bluetooth, CarPlay, or USB as connection signals. They also describe an optional motion-based detection setting for parking without Bluetooth; Location Services set to “Always” can help detection when Maps is in the background or the screen is off.

- For automatic saving, connect the iPhone to the car using a supported connection, or review Google Maps’ motion and location settings if you want detection without Bluetooth.
- To save manually, open Google Maps, tap the blue location dot, then tap “Saved parking.”
- To find the spot, open the saved pin on the map or search for “Saved parking,” then tap it for directions.
Google says an iPhone or iPad saved parking marker remains for 48 hours unless you remove it or start driving. App labels and settings can vary by version.

Save your parking spot on Android
Google’s Android instructions describe a deliberate manual save:
- Open Google Maps just after parking.
- Tap the blue dot showing your current location, then choose “Save your parking.”
- To return to the car, tap the search bar, choose “Parking location,” and tap “Directions.”
- If needed, add a photo or note—for example, the floor or the time remaining on a meter. You can also move the pin, share the location, or clear it.
Google says the Android parking location stays saved until you remove it. Its Android instructions document this manual flow; they do not establish the same automatic parking-save behavior described for iPhone.

Make the pin useful in a garage or crowded lot
A map pin records a geographic point, but it may not capture the details you need inside a structure. Add a short note or photo while the location is fresh:

Google Maps’ parking tools support adding a photo or note. These details complement the pin; they do not turn it into live tracking.

What a saved parking location does—and does not—tell you
A saved point reflects where the phone or app recorded the parking location. If another person moves the car afterward, the saved point does not update as live vehicle tracking. For a shared car, check whether the vehicle is still at the saved spot before relying on the marker for anything beyond navigation.
