It depends which URL you mean. You can reuse a YouTube stream key and encoder setup, but that does not guarantee that a new scheduled broadcast will keep the original audience-facing watch-page URL. If you need viewers to return to the same event page, do not end that event and create a new one assuming its link will carry over. Keep the distinction clear: the stream key and ingestion URL are for sending video to YouTube; the watch URL is what you share with viewers.
Which URL are you trying to keep?
| What it is | Who uses it | What reuse means |
|---|---|---|
| Watch-page URL | Viewers | The audience-facing destination for a particular live stream or scheduled event. YouTube’s documented Reuse settings feature copies settings to another stream; it does not promise that the new event retains the previous event’s watch URL. |
| Stream URL | Your encoder | The YouTube ingestion address entered in the encoder’s server or URL field. |
| Stream key | Your encoder | A credential entered in the encoder so YouTube can accept the incoming feed. A reusable key preserves encoder configuration, not the public watch-page link. |
If your goal is to keep the audience at one scheduled event page, use that event in Live Control Room and avoid creating a replacement event on the assumption that it will have the same URL. The YouTube Help guidance reviewed for this article distinguishes reuse of stream settings and keys from sharing a scheduled event URL; it does not establish a universal guarantee that a new event will retain an old watch-page URL.

Reuse your encoder setup with a custom stream key
This is the documented route when what you want to reuse is the encoder credential and its configuration. YouTube Help’s “Manage live stream settings” says: “To reuse the same stream key, create a custom stream key.” Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. If you have streamed before, some previous settings, including a stream key, may load automatically.
- Choose the encoder workflow. In Live Control Room, open the Stream tab. Under Select stream key, create or select a custom stream key if you need a reusable key.
- Copy the encoder details. Copy YouTube’s Stream URL into the encoder’s server or URL field, and the selected stream key into its key field. Do not share the key as if it were the public viewer link.
- Start sending video. Start the encoder. For a scheduled event, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, check that the incoming video and audio are correct, then select Go live when you are ready to begin the broadcast.
- Reuse settings only when you mean to make another stream. In the Manage tab, schedule an upcoming event and share that event’s watch URL. You can use Reuse settings to copy prior metadata, settings, and stream key to another stream, but treat it as a new event unless YouTube explicitly shows you otherwise.
If you need a shareable upcoming event
Schedule the broadcast in Live Control Room’s Manage tab and send viewers the URL YouTube provides for that scheduled event. Reuse settings can save setup work when creating a later event; it is not documentation that the original event URL will persist. If you have already ended the event, check the new event’s watch URL in Studio before sharing it, and update any announcements that point to a different page.

Ending a stream versus recovering a temporary interruption
For a scheduled broadcast you are finishing, YouTube’s documented procedure is to select End Stream and stop sending content from the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive behavior is separate from URL continuity.
If your intention is only to recover from a temporary interruption and continue the same event, avoid ending it and starting a replacement event as a first response. The YouTube Help material reviewed here does not define the URL or event lifecycle for every interruption scenario, so check the event state in Live Control Room before taking an action that ends it.

Prepare for a relaunch or scheduled start
- Set up and test the encoder at least two hours before the event.
- Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start so you can inspect the Live Control Room preview.
- Check the preview and monitor audio and video quality before selecting Go live.
- If you have a backup encoder, test failover in advance by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection.
- Verify that any local archive file is growing, and check the stream through both the channel and watch pages and on mobile devices.
YouTube’s preparation guidance recommends these checks; it does not require expensive equipment simply to get started.

Troubleshoot an encoder that will not start
- YouTube is not receiving the encoder feed: Open Live Control Room, copy the current stream key from the Stream section, and paste it into the encoder. Confirm that the Stream URL is in the encoder’s server or URL field and the key is in its separate key field.
- The key may have been exposed: Reset it in YouTube Studio, then replace the saved key in every encoder that uses it. A reset key will not work with an encoder still configured with the old value.
- The stream appears in preview, but the scheduled event has not started: Check the incoming preview and select Go live in Live Control Room when ready.
- Your software signs in to YouTube instead of using a stream key: YouTube directs users of this type of software to contact that software’s support team.
- You are unsure whether the public URL is the old one: Check the actual event in the Manage tab and copy the URL shown for that event. Do not substitute the stream key or encoder Stream URL.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube stream from uploaded recordings rather than relaunching a camera or encoder feed, StreamNeo runs the playback in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. This is for looping uploaded videos to YouTube, not going live from a camera. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
