Before you rebuild: protect what you need to restore
A reimage replaces the server’s existing system image. The exact consequences for attached volumes, snapshots, and backups depend on the provider, so read its current warning or ask its support team before confirming. Do not assume separate storage will be preserved—or deleted—without checking.

Make sure you can still reach the services and materials needed to bring your apps back, even if the original server is unavailable. Easypanel’s self-hosting guidance calls out access to backups, DNS, source code, and required secrets, and recommends practicing redeployment of a known-good image or source revision. - Keep access to the DNS account, application source or image, deployment settings, and required secrets.
- Check the provider’s reimage notice for effects on the operating system, disks, attached volumes, snapshots, and backups.
- Confirm the replacement image can be Ubuntu and that you will have root access.
Reimage the server and install Easypanel
- Open your provider’s server controls. Select the correct server and follow the provider’s documented rebuild, reinstall, or image-replacement workflow. Button names and steps differ by provider; check the confirmation screen carefully before starting.
- Choose a fresh Ubuntu server. Wait for the provider to finish provisioning, then connect with root access. Easypanel’s documented script installer is for a fresh Ubuntu server.
- Check the installation requirements. Easypanel’s official Getting Started documentation specifies at least 2 GB of RAM and says ports 80 and 443 must be available. The RAM figure is an installation minimum, not a recommendation for sizing production apps.
- Run the installer as root. In the server’s shell, run:
curl -sSL https://get.easypanel.io | shEasypanel says the script installs Docker if needed, initializes Docker Swarm, and starts Easypanel. Follow any setup prompts it presents.
- Verify the panel, then restore or redeploy. Confirm you can reach Easypanel, then deploy your applications and restore required data. Check that domains resolve to the new server and that each app and database works as expected.
Easypanel also documents a Docker-based setup alternative in its Getting Started documentation. For a reimaged server, the script above is the simpler documented starting point.

Choose capacity for the applications, not just the installer
The 2 GB RAM minimum only addresses Easypanel’s installation requirement. Choose server capacity around the busiest expected workloads. Easypanel’s VPS sizing guidance says to account for applications, databases, builds, persistent data, retained images, build cache, logs, and temporary files. Leave enough disk space for recovery too: restoring data may temporarily require the backup and restored copy to coexist.
Manual reimage or a preconfigured option?
A manual reimage followed by the installer gives you a fresh Ubuntu server and a clear installation sequence, but leaves provider-specific provisioning and recovery decisions to you. Easypanel’s hosting directory also lists providers offering one-click installation, preconfigured servers, or managed hosting. Availability and terms can change, so check the current offering rather than assuming a particular option is available.

When comparing routes, consider the server’s capacity and storage, available region, support and management responsibilities, and backup and recovery options. A preconfigured or managed route can reduce setup work, but it does not remove the need to understand what is backed up or how you would recover your application data.
After installation: validate recovery, not just panel access
A working panel is only the first check. Redeploy a known-good app or source revision, restore its data where applicable, and test the domain and application behavior. Easypanel recommends practicing redeployment so the recovery process is familiar before it is needed.
