There is no single “refresh” command that fixes every slow, frozen, or unreliable LG Smart TV. Start by narrowing down whether the problem affects one app, the internet connection, or the whole TV; then check storage and software updates. A factory reset is a last resort because it removes installed apps and saved settings.
First identify what is failing
Notice whether the issue is limited to one streaming app, affects internet-dependent features, slows the entire menu, changes picture or sound, or involves a peripheral such as the Magic Remote. These symptoms can have different causes, so a TV-wide reset is not the right first response to every problem. [LG support]

Fix app and connection problems first
If an app will not load or keeps freezing
- Check the TV’s network status and confirm its Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection to the router is working.
- Try another network, such as a mobile hotspot. If the app works there, the original network may be the cause.
- If other apps work but one does not, update or reinstall the affected app. If the problem persists, contact that app’s provider.

- Check that the TV is signed in to an LG account and connected to the internet.
- Confirm that the LG Services Country setting matches your location.
- Check available storage and remove apps you no longer use if space is low.
- Verify that the app is available for your model and region.

Check for a software update
When the TV can connect to the internet, use its built-in update check first. LG lists these common paths, but menus can differ by model and webOS release:

Automatic updates can be enabled in the TV’s update settings. Do not unplug the TV or disconnect it from the internet during an update; LG warns that doing so may cause a system error. [LG software update guidance]

When a manual USB update is needed
If you cannot use the built-in update route, get firmware from the LG support page for your exact TV model and follow that model’s instructions. LG’s manual method specifies an empty USB flash drive with at least 1 GB of storage and a computer with internet access. Consider a factory reset only after simpler checks
A reset returns the TV to initial settings. A full reset removes installed apps and personal or account settings, so expect to set up the TV again and sign back in to apps. Do not turn off or unplug the TV while the reset is in progress. [LG reset guidance]

Know when a reset may not solve the problem
LG says TVs made before webOS 3.5 (2017) may not support the latest web technologies and may be unable to run some apps because of performance constraints. A reset or update is not a guarantee that an unsupported app will become usable. [LG guidance on older TVs]

For temporary picture or sound problems, LG Quick Help may offer more targeted checks than a factory reset. Depending on the OS generation, it includes Optimize for suggested picture and sound adjustments, Check Items to evaluate selected internal components, and LG Remote Service for diagnosis by a support agent.
