First adjust the headset you already own: loosen it, position the visor over your eyes and the rear support at the back of your head, then tighten the supports only enough to keep the image steady. Use your model’s own fit instructions—strap layouts differ, and an adjustment that relieves pressure on one headset may not work on another.
Start by refitting the headset
- Identify your exact model. Find its fit instructions before changing strap positions; the adjustment guidance below applies to specific headsets, not every VR design.
- Loosen the rear support before putting the headset on. For the VIVE Focus Vision, HTC says to position the visor over the eyes, bring the band snug against the back of the head, adjust the dial, and then snug the top strap. - Use the top strap rather than relying only on the side or rear fit. On the Focus Vision, HTC instructs users to adjust the top strap after the rear band. HTC also says its VIVE XR head strap can distribute headset weight more evenly for a more comfortable fit. That is manufacturer guidance about the strap’s purpose, not a measured guarantee that it will relieve pressure for every wearer. HTC VIVE XR head-strap instructions.
- Stop when the headset is secure. Aim for a snug, stable fit, not maximum tightness. Check that the headset stays in position and the view remains clear while you move your head gently.
If pressure is concentrated on your forehead
Check the fit instructions for your particular model before moving straps. The right adjustment depends on the headset’s design.

Apple Vision Pro
Apple Support’s specific advice for Vision Pro is: “To relieve pressure on your forehead, pull the lower strap slightly up on the back of your head.” Follow Apple’s instruction for Vision Pro rather than treating it as a universal strap adjustment. Apple Vision Pro fit guidance.
PICO 4
The PICO 4 manual advises fine-tuning the top strap to reduce forehead pressure. Make small adjustments and follow the manual for the headset’s fit system; the available manual material does not establish a revision date. PICO 4 headset manual.

Check where the pressure is coming from
If refitting does not help, notice whether the discomfort comes from the strap or the facial interface—the part that contacts your face. Check whether the interface is seated correctly and whether your exact headset supports compatible alternatives. A replacement cushion or strap can change where contact or support occurs, but fit and compatibility are specific to the headset and accessory.
For example, Razer sells a strap and facial interface designed for Meta/Oculus Quest 2 and describes them as intended to reduce pressure. Those are the manufacturer’s product claims, not independent comparative comfort results, and the product is not evidence of compatibility with other headsets. When to replace a strap or interface
Consider a model-compatible strap or facial interface only after checking the supplied fit system. Before buying, confirm the exact headset model and accessory compatibility, and consider whether the product changes the support path or the facial contact point. A replacement that shifts pressure may also affect how securely the headset sits or where the lenses align; no source here establishes a universally best option.

If the pressure does not improve
- Recheck the fit instructions for your exact headset and make only the adjustments specified for that model.
- Do not keep tightening to compensate for a poor fit or a damaged part.
- If the fit remains painful, the headset will not stay stable, or a component is damaged, contact the manufacturer or model-specific support rather than bending, cutting, or otherwise modifying the headset.
Manufacturer instructions and product descriptions do not establish a pressure threshold or show that one adjustment or accessory works best for everyone. Choose changes based on your headset’s instructions and whether they preserve a stable, clear view.
