Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf your app shows the wrong language, an incorrect translation, or garbled characters, those symptoms usually point to different parts of the text pipeline. First identify whether the app selected the wrong locale or resource, rendered a linguistically incorrect message, or decoded text bytes with the wrong character encoding. Then fix and test that specific layer.
Identify what is wrong before changing code
Capture the affected message key, the requested locale tag, the locale or resource actually selected, and the exact text shown. Classify the symptom before editing translation files:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Readable text, but in the wrong language: check locale selection, fallback behavior, resource loading, and the key or namespace used by the component.
- Readable text in the expected language, but wrong in meaning or grammar: check the source and target messages, placeholders, and screen context with a qualified language reviewer.
- Missing or unexpected fallback text: check whether the key exists in the selected resource and whether that resource was loaded.
- Garbled text, replacement characters, or mojibake: trace the bytes and the encoding assumed at each file, transport, and decoding boundary.
A framework can select and render a message; that does not establish that the translation is linguistically correct. Likewise, changing a translation file will not repair bytes that were already decoded incorrectly.
Fix locale and resource selection in Flutter
Flutter localization connects supported locales and delegates to message resources, commonly stored in ARB files, with generated localization code. Start by checking the app configuration and the value the widget actually displays. Flutter describes Locale as identifying the user’s language; a locale can also distinguish a script or region when the product needs that distinction. See Flutter’s internationalization guide.

Check delegates, supported locales, and generated messages
- Confirm the project has the relevant localization dependencies, such as
flutter_localizationsandintlwhere appropriate. - In the app’s
MaterialApporCupertinoApp, check that the localization delegates andsupportedLocalesare configured. ForWidgetsApp, use the corresponding widgets delegate. - Verify the localization generation setup:
flutter: generate: true, the location and settings inl10n.yaml, the template ARB, and the target-language ARB files. - Check that each target resource contains the intended keys corresponding to the template. Run
flutter gen-l10nor the project’s documented generation/build flow. - Confirm that the generated
AppLocalizationsdelegate is included and the widget reads the generated localized value—not a hard-coded source-language string.
Check full locale tags and fallback behavior
Do not compare only language names if your content varies by script or region. Flutter’s guide shows locale distinctions such as Chinese script/region combinations and French regional variants; represent material differences in supportedLocales, using constructs such as Locale.fromSubtags when needed.
Flutter’s documented default resolution first uses an exact supported locale when available. Otherwise it tries a supported locale with a matching language code, then falls back to the first supported locale. That fallback can produce readable but unexpected text. The supportedLocales API documentation describes supported locale matching; the localeResolutionCallback API documentation notes that basic resolution is optimized for speed and does not implement a complete algorithm such as Unicode TR35. If product requirements need more nuanced matching, examine localeResolutionCallback or localeListResolutionCallback.

Separate formatting from translated words
If the complaint concerns a date, number, or currency rather than a sentence, inspect locale-aware formatting. Flutter’s localization tooling uses NumberFormat for locale-specific numeric output; correct translated words do not guarantee that formatted values follow the intended locale.
Fix language and resource selection in React
React does not itself select translation resources; a common integration is i18next with react-i18next. Check initialization, resource loading, language selection, and the component’s lookup before rewriting a message. The react-i18next step-by-step guide shows resources and the useTranslation hook in a React setup.
Verify initialization, key, namespace, and loaded locale
- Confirm that both
i18nextandreact-i18nextare installed and that the React integration is initialized once. - Check that the configured resources contain the key under the expected locale and namespace, and that the selected language and fallback match the app’s intent.
- In the affected component, confirm it calls the expected key and namespace through the translation hook or function, rather than displaying a hard-coded string or looking up a different resource.
- If the app uses language detection or a backend to load resources, verify that the relevant optional detector/backend package and its configuration are working. These packages handle detection or loading; they do not validate translation quality.
The react-i18next introduction distinguishes the React binding from i18next’s core translation functionality. For a problem involving plural forms, interpolation, or formatting, inspect the corresponding i18next configuration as well as the selected message.
Keep sentences with React content translatable as a whole
When a translated sentence includes a link, emphasis, or another React node, use a component-aware pattern such as react-i18next’s Trans component rather than assembling sentence fragments around the node. Word order can differ between languages, so translators need control over the complete sentence. See the Trans component documentation.

Trace garbled text to the encoding boundary
Encoding corruption is a bytes-and-decoder problem, not a locale-selection problem. Trace the text through its path:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Original source: identify the resource, database value, or other origin and inspect the bytes where practical.
- File or network boundary: check how the content is stored or transported and whether any charset metadata declares an encoding.
- Decoder: verify which encoding the next step assumes and whether it matches the bytes.
- In-memory string and UI: compare the decoded Unicode string with what the app renders to determine where the corruption first appears.
In browser code, TextDecoder.encoding reports the selected encoding; MDN documents that it defaults to UTF-8 when no label is supplied. A UTF-8 default does not repair bytes that were already misencoded. Inspect the decoder and, when the correct label is known, specify it at the decoding boundary. See MDN’s TextDecoder encoding property documentation.
Best Value
Use representative non-ASCII examples when checking the original bytes and decoded string: accented Latin text, CJK characters, and the scripts your product supports. Avoid repeatedly encoding and decoding corrupted text until one sample looks right; that can conceal the first mismatch and leave other content damaged. Correct the earliest boundary where the actual encoding and assumed encoding diverge.
Review translation accuracy after selection is correct
Once the expected locale and key are being rendered, assess the message as language work. Compare source and target text in the surrounding screen—not in isolation—and have a fluent reviewer check meaning and tone. Check these details:
- Whether the target preserves the source meaning and uses the product’s established terminology.
- Whether placeholders are present and grammatically positioned for the target language.
- Whether plural or gender-sensitive forms fit the actual value and context.
- Whether concatenated fragments have produced unnatural word order; prefer complete translatable sentences where the framework allows it.
- Whether the displayed text is truncated or constrained by the UI, making an accurate message appear incomplete or misleading.
Flutter’s and react-i18next’s documentation explains resource selection and rendering; it does not certify linguistic correctness. Treat code verification and human translation review as separate checks.
