There is no manufacturer-supported home method for flattening an established crease on a foldable phone. On many models, the line or slight indentation is a normal result of the display folding. Pressing, heating, rubbing, weighting or piercing the fold can damage the flexible panel, hinge or protective layer. The safest approach is to protect the screen from debris and impact, leave the factory film alone, and use the care instructions for your exact model.
Care can reduce the chance of new damage, but it has not been shown to remove a crease that is already present. A crease that suddenly becomes deeper or is accompanied by bubbles, cracks, lines or touch problems deserves an inspection by the manufacturer or an authorized repair provider.

What the crease means on a foldable phone
Foldable phones use a flexible display stack that bends around a hinge. The centre line is therefore different from a scratch or dent in a rigid glass panel. Its visibility can change with lighting, viewing angle, temperature and how far the phone is opened, while the underlying fold geometry remains.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 safety guide says a crease at the centre of the main screen is a normal characteristic. Motorola’s Razr care instructions explain that, unlike a rigid glass display, a foldable display is designed to bend and may show slight waviness or unevenness where it folds.

A normal crease should not be confused with a damaged protective layer or a failing display. The appearance by itself cannot establish a fault, and there is no cross-brand measurement that defines how deep or visible a normal crease should be. Use the exact model’s support documentation and watch for changes in function.
Can you flatten an existing crease at home?
No proven, manufacturer-approved treatment in the cited guidance makes an existing fold crease disappear. Do not treat the following ideas as repair methods:

The practical distinction is important: avoiding pressure and contamination can reduce damage risk; it does not reduce the fold’s designed curvature. If the line is unchanged, the display works normally and the model’s guide calls such waviness normal, use the phone normally rather than trying to reshape it.
A safe care routine for the inner screen and hinge
Use this routine whenever you handle or close a foldable. Adapt the cleaning step to the instructions for your exact model; manufacturers do not publish one universal procedure.
- Inspect before closing. Open the phone fully and look across the inner display, the edges and the hinge area. Check for grit, crumbs, sand, a card, a key or any other object that could be trapped between the halves. Google’s Pixel Fold guide warns that fine particles can damage a flexible screen or hinge, and Motorola likewise tells Razr owners to check for debris before closing.
- Remove loose contamination gently. Follow the device maker’s cleaning directions. Do not scrape at the fold, push particles into the hinge or improvise with a tool. Avoid pressurized air wherever the model’s instructions caution against it; a blast can drive grit deeper into a gap.
- Close without forcing the halves together. Keep fingers, cables, cards and other objects away from the inner display while folding. Let the hinge complete its normal movement and do not press on the centre line to make the two sides meet.
- Keep hard and sharp items away. Keys, coins, fingernails, pens and similar objects can mark the softer flexible surface. Samsung’s guide specifically warns against hard or sharp objects touching the fold and against closing the device with objects between the screens.
- Leave the supplied inner film in place. The factory-applied layer is part of the model’s display protection. Do not pick at an edge or peel it because the crease is visible. If it lifts, bubbles or tears, use the manufacturer or an authorized service provider for the approved replacement procedure.
- Clean only as the maker specifies. Motorola’s cited Razr page permits gentle wiping with a pre-moistened screen wipe or lint-free cloth. Google’s guidance stresses careful cleaning and says not to pick at or remove the protective film. Those directions are model-specific; do not assume a cloth, liquid or wipe approved for one foldable is approved for another.
- Recheck after an incident. If the phone was dropped, closed on debris or exposed to pressure, inspect the fold and test touch across the entire inner screen. A change that appears after an incident is a reason to seek model-specific advice, not to press the line flat.
Screen-protector rules are model-specific
A protector can protect against certain surface wear only when the manufacturer designs and approves it for that display. It is not a general crease-reduction accessory. The cited policies illustrate why advice for one foldable cannot be transferred to another.

These instructions are not interchangeable, and availability or wording can vary by model and market. Look up the support page and warranty terms for the precise model number printed in the phone’s settings or on its packaging.
Why common “crease fixes” can make things worse
Force concentrates stress at the weakest area
The fold is where the display stack repeatedly bends. Pushing directly on it adds a load in a direction the hinge and flexible layers were not designed to withstand from the outside. Even if the line looks temporarily less obvious, the pressure can create a permanent mark, damage the touch layer or cause a layer to separate.

Heat and chemicals are uncontrolled variables
Hair dryers, heat pads, solvents and household cleaners are not approved crease treatments. A foldable contains bonded layers and a battery near the display assembly. Without a model-specific service procedure, you cannot control the temperature or chemical compatibility well enough to make this a safe experiment.
Rubbing can remove surface material, not the crease
Massaging with a cloth, oil or a polishing compound may alter reflections while wearing the protective surface. It does not change the hinge radius or the internal display structure that creates the fold.
Closing over an object causes avoidable damage
A grain of sand, a crumb or a card can act like a hard point when the two halves close. Google calls out particles as a risk to the flexible screen and hinge; Samsung and Motorola likewise instruct owners to keep the closing surfaces clear. Checking first is safer than trying to smooth a mark afterward.

When a crease may indicate a problem
Official guides establish that a visible centre crease can be normal, but they do not provide a universal cross-brand test for distinguishing normal fold geometry from wear or a defect. Arrange an assessment with the phone maker or an authorized repair provider if you notice a sudden change or any functional symptom, including:
- a new deep indentation or a crease that changes rapidly;
- bubbling, lifting or separation of a display layer;
- a crack, black line, coloured line or spreading blotch;
- a strip or area where touch no longer responds accurately;
- flicker, a blank inner display or failure to open and close normally after an impact;
- debris trapped under the factory film that cannot be removed using the model’s approved method.
Describe when the change began, whether the phone was dropped or closed on an object, and whether the outer display still works. Do not diagnose the cause yourself and do not promise that a repair will make the crease invisible; the service provider must evaluate the specific model, display assembly and warranty status.
How care differs between popular foldable designs
The following examples show why a generic “foldable phone” rule is unreliable.

The Motorola page is regional India support guidance, and the Samsung document is specifically a Galaxy Z Fold5 guide. Neither establishes the correct procedure for every generation or country. Always select the exact device on the maker’s support site before cleaning, replacing film or claiming warranty service.

Reducing crease visibility is primarily a display-engineering challenge, not a user-maintenance task. Samsung’s 2024 developer interview says the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 introduced a revised Protect Layer structure intended to reduce the crease compared with their predecessors. That is a manufacturer description of a design change, not evidence that an owner can retrofit the layer or erase an older crease. Read the statement in context at Samsung Mobile Press.

In an announcement dated July 14, 2026, Samsung described Flex Titanium as combining a titanium-alloy film below the OLED panel with a titanium plate beneath the display module, with the stated aim of reducing crease visibility. The announcement reports that the alloy film has 20 times greater mechanical stiffness than polymer film, a Samsung-reported internal material specification. It is not a measurement of how much a consumer will see a crease and is not a promise that an existing phone can be repaired. Details are in Samsung’s announcement.
If a less-visible crease is a buying priority, compare the actual model generation, hinge design, warranty and service coverage. Independent hands-on reviews can show how a line appears under different lighting and viewing angles, but those impressions are comparisons between devices, not a method for changing the screen you already own.
A practical decision rule
If the crease is stable and the phone works normally
Treat it as part of the fold unless the exact manufacturer guide says otherwise. Keep the hinge and inner display clear, avoid pressure and unapproved films, and continue normal use.
If the appearance changed but there are no obvious functional symptoms
Stop experimenting with pressure or heat. Record the change, inspect for debris or a lifted film without picking at it, and ask the manufacturer or an authorized provider whether the model needs inspection.
If there are display or touch symptoms
Back up important data if the phone remains usable, avoid repeatedly opening and closing it, and arrange service. Lines, cracks, bubbles, dead touch areas and sudden failures should not be dismissed as an ordinary crease.
