To reduce PS5 Pro heat and fan noise, first move it out of enclosed or cramped spaces, keep its rear and bottom vents clear, and leave at least 10 cm between the console and a wall. If an overheating message appears, turn the console off and let it cool before using it again. Clean dust only with the console unplugged; contact official PlayStation support if warnings or shutdowns continue.
Start with placement and airflow
Put the PS5 Pro in an open, well-ventilated spot where heat can escape. Sony recommends keeping the console at least 10 cm from a wall and avoiding long-fibre carpet. Do not put it in a closed cabinet or cramped space, cover it with cloth, or block its vents.

Sony’s teardown explains that the PS5 Pro draws air in and exhausts it through openings at the rear and bottom. Keep those areas unobstructed. Its description of the console’s cooling design is not a measured comparison of temperatures or fan noise.
Is a loud PS5 Pro fan normal?
The fan may temporarily run faster during some games and apps to cool the system, so a change in fan volume on its own does not necessarily indicate a fault. Sony’s general PS5 noise guidance describes this behavior across the PS5 family; it is not a diagnosis of a PS5 Pro that shows an overheating warning or shuts down unexpectedly.

As Tsuchida puts it in Sony’s PS5 Pro teardown, “PS5 Pro is a high performing console, so it requires more air to cool it down.” That explains the need for clear airflow; it does not establish a target noise level or prove that any particular console is operating normally.
Remove vent dust safely
- Turn the console off, disconnect its AC power cable, and let it cool before cleaning.
- Use a handheld or low-powered vacuum around the air vents to remove dust. A handheld vacuum is an optional tool, not a required purchase.
- If you remove covers to clear dust beneath them, follow Sony’s instructions for your PS5 Pro model and reinstall each cover correctly. Sony warns that incorrectly installed covers can contribute to overheating.
Do not open internal assemblies or attempt to handle liquid metal or replace thermal materials as routine maintenance. Sony says the console has no user-serviceable components inside and warns against unauthorized modification.

What to do when an overheating message appears
- Stop playing and turn the console off. Sony’s PS5 Pro Safety Guide says, “If you see the message, turn off the console and wait until it cools down.” Do not continue playing while the warning is visible; Sony cautions that doing so may leave the console non-operational.
- After it cools, move it to a well-ventilated location away from high temperatures.
- Check that the vents are clear and the console is not enclosed, covered, or crowded by other objects.
- If an M.2 SSD is installed, check that its heat-dissipation parts remain attached.
When to contact PlayStation support
Contact official PlayStation support for your region if overheating warnings or unexpected shutdowns return after you have improved airflow and safely cleared vent dust. Sony lists overheating as a PS5 Pro troubleshooting issue and directs owners to support specialists. The available guidance does not establish repair prices, warranty coverage, eligibility, or turnaround times, so check those details with support in your region.
