To reduce a prerecorded Hindi bhajan MP4, re-encode it with a video codec such as H.264, choose a quality-based setting, and check the result before replacing your original. Do not change its frame rate just to make the file smaller. If by “YouTube stream” you mean a live encoder feed rather than an uploaded video, use YouTube’s separate live bitrate and keyframe recommendations instead.
First, decide whether you are compressing a file or setting up a live stream
These are different jobs. Compressing an MP4 changes a prerecorded file so it takes less storage or uploads faster. Configuring a live encoder determines the video and audio feed sent to YouTube while you are broadcasting; it does not shrink an existing MP4.

- For a prerecorded bhajan: make a smaller copy of the MP4 with an encoder such as FFmpeg, then inspect the picture and sound.
- For a live encoder: choose settings using the live-stream table for your resolution, frame rate, and codec. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) for RTMP/RTMPS encoder settings and a two-second keyframe interval. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
YouTube’s upload recommendations and its live-ingestion recommendations are not interchangeable. The upload guidance recommends MP4 with H.264 video and includes AAC-LC among its audio options; live settings have their own bitrate recommendations. See YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.

Reduce the size of a prerecorded bhajan MP4
1. Keep the original and inspect the source
Make a copy before encoding. Note the source resolution, frame rate, audio format, and duration. These details affect the settings that make sense and help you compare the output. YouTube’s upload guidance says, “Content should be encoded and uploaded in the same frame rate it was recorded.” Retaining the source frame rate avoids an unnecessary change to motion and is not a reliable shortcut for shrinking the file.
#1 Best Overall
- Transform audio playing via your speakers and headphones
- Improve sound quality by adjusting it with effects
- Take control over the sound playing through audio hardware
2. Choose quality-based encoding or a target bitrate
With FFmpeg’s H.264 encoder, CRF is a quality control: it lets the encoder spend more or fewer bits according to the content. A slower preset can take longer to encode while allowing the encoder more time to find compression efficiencies. Neither choice guarantees a particular file size or a universally best result; the source material and acceptable quality loss matter.
If you have a specific size target, a bitrate-based approach may be more predictable, but it still requires checking the result. For reference, YouTube’s undated upload guidance lists SDR video bitrate recommendations of 8 Mbps for 1080p, 5 Mbps for 720p, and 2.5 Mbps for 480p at standard frame rates. These are upload recommendations, not measured optimums for Hindi bhajan videos, and they are not live-stream bitrate settings.

3. Encode a short section before the whole video
Make a representative sample that includes vocals, instruments, and any detailed or moving visuals. Watch it at the size people are likely to view it and listen closely for damage to vocals or instrumental detail. Change one setting at a time and compare the file size and quality. This sample-and-adjust approach is practical guidance; no source-specific CRF value or compression result is established for a Hindi bhajan.

ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -c:v libx264 -preset slow -crf 23 -c:a aac -b:a 192k -movflags +faststart output.mp4
Replace input.mp4 and output.mp4 with your file names. CRF 23 and 192k audio are example values, not a guaranteed recommendation for your source. If the audio is already suitable, avoid re-encoding it unnecessarily where your workflow permits. Check the finished video and listen through it before uploading; compare its actual file size with the original.
The -movflags +faststart option moves the MP4’s playback metadata toward the beginning of the file. FFmpeg explains that this can improve playback behavior; it does not reduce the compression ratio. YouTube also recommends placing the moov atom at the front for upload files. See the FFmpeg documentation.

Set a live YouTube encoder separately
If you are sending a live feed, find the row in YouTube’s live settings guidance that matches your intended resolution, frame rate, and codec. Use that bitrate recommendation rather than borrowing an upload bitrate. Confirm that your available upload connection can sustain the selected feed; a connection that cannot hold the bitrate can cause interruptions or degraded delivery.

- Use CBR for the RTMP/RTMPS encoder settings recommended by YouTube.
- Set the keyframe interval to two seconds, as YouTube recommends.
- Choose bitrate according to the actual live resolution, frame rate, and codec, using YouTube’s live encoder settings.
Common problems and fixes
- The file is still too large: adjust the quality or bitrate setting, encode a new sample, and compare it. There is no guaranteed file size without knowing the source and target.
- Vocals or instruments sound worse: compare the sample with the original and avoid needless audio re-encoding. If the damage remains, use a less aggressive video or audio setting.
- The video looks choppy after encoding: check that the output frame rate matches the recorded source, as YouTube advises for uploads.
- The MP4 takes time to begin playback: use
-movflags +faststartfor front-loaded MP4 metadata. This affects playback behavior, not the amount of compression. - A live feed drops or struggles: check whether your upload connection can sustain the selected live bitrate, then verify that the bitrate, resolution, frame rate, codec, CBR mode, and keyframe interval match YouTube’s live guidance.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a prerecorded bhajan video live on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo can loop an uploaded video or playlist from the cloud. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; there is no computer, OBS, or home connection to keep running. Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free day.
