Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsStart with the game’s camera, video, or accessibility settings: reduce camera shake and head bob, disable motion blur where possible, and adjust camera speed and field of view (FOV) in small steps. Try one change at a time. If you still feel unwell, stop playing; no setting is a guaranteed fix.
Why first-person camera movement can feel uncomfortable
A first-person game can move the image on screen while your body remains still. Microsoft describes that mismatch as one possible contributor to motion sickness, not a complete explanation for every player or episode. Its Xbox Accessibility Guideline 117 recommends giving players control over visual motion and camera behavior.

The useful starting point is to reduce or change effects that make the view move, blur, sway, or rotate. The exact controls and menu names vary by game, edition, and platform.

Try these settings in order
- Open the relevant menu. Pause and check Camera, Video, Accessibility, or a settings search. If the game has a motion-sickness preset or camera-comfort section, try it first.
- Lower camera shake and head bob. Disable these effects or reduce them to their minimum, then see whether the view feels steadier.
- Turn off motion blur and reduce sway. Look for motion blur, weapon or arm sway, and other repeated camera effects. Disable or reduce the ones the game lets you control.
- Reduce camera rotation speed or sensitivity if turning is uncomfortable. Lowering it can make quick turns less abrupt, though it may also make navigation feel slower.
- Experiment with FOV in small increments. There is no universal best direction or value; compare the trade-offs below.
- Try camera smoothing or change automatic camera movement. If available, test smoothing, and look for an option to reduce or disable automatic camera-centering or movement.
- Switch to third person if the game supports it. Treat it as an alternative to test, not a promised remedy.
- Change one setting at a time and retest briefly. That makes it easier to identify which adjustment, if any, feels more comfortable.
How to choose a field of view
FOV controls how much of the game world is visible across the screen. A wider view shows more of the scene, but can make objects near the edges look stretched or distorted—the “fishbowl” effect. A narrower view reduces that edge distortion but shows less of the scene. Viewing distance and other factors can also affect comfort, according to Microsoft’s guideline.

Try moving the slider a little in either direction and keep the setting that feels better. Bethesda’s ESO support guidance likewise suggests increasing or decreasing FOV rather than prescribing one direction. Avoid assuming that maximum or minimum FOV is best for everyone.
Examples of where to look
The Elder Scrolls Online
Bethesda’s support instructions for motion sickness in The Elder Scrolls Online direct players to the in-game menu and Settings > Camera. The article suggests trying Smoothing, lowering Screen Shake and Head Bob, changing Field of View in either direction, and adjusting Rotation Speed. These are ESO-specific instructions; other games may use different labels or menus.

Ubisoft’s Far Cry 6 accessibility overview describes Camera Shakes controls, options to disable full-screen effects such as drunk or poisoned effects, and a Motion Blur toggle. This is an example of controls available in that game, not a claim that fantasy games share its settings.
