Start with the calibration settings in the game you are playing, then adjust audio, visuals, and controller timing as separate issues. There is no universal millisecond value: the right setting depends on the game and your display and audio setup. For Rock Band 4, enable your TV’s Game Mode if available, calibrate in-game, and make small adjustments while testing a song. Other games use different controls, so do not copy Rock Band values into them.
First identify what feels out of sync
“Input lag” can describe several different problems. Music may be early or late compared with the notes, note icons may appear out of time with the music, or your strums may register only when played earlier or later than expected. These symptoms point to different adjustments.

These settings are game-specific. The official instructions for Rock Band 4 and Guitar Hero Live describe different controls and procedures.
Reduce display delay before calibrating
If your television has a Game Mode, turn it on when playing Rock Band 4. Harmonix recommends this setting because an HDTV can process audio and video with different timing. Game Mode may reduce display processing, but it does not replace calibration. Harmonix’s calibration guidance also recommends testing and fine-tuning for your setup.

Calibrate Rock Band 4
Open the calibration settings
- Turn on the TV and sound system you normally use for the game.
- In Rock Band 4, open Options > System Settings > Calibration.
- Run automatic guitar calibration if you have a supported Rock Band 4 guitar controller or an earlier Rock Band Wireless Fender Stratocaster controller. Manual calibration is also available for all instruments, with values that can be entered directly. The options and path are described in Epic’s calibration instructions.
- Play a song in Quickplay or Practice Mode and assess the timing before making further changes.
Display-category values shown in calibration guidance are starting points, not guaranteed settings. A value that works on one TV and sound system may not suit another.
Fine-tune audio separately from video
Epic’s sync troubleshooting steps use Practice Mode at 50% speed to make the timing easier to judge:

- Audio: listen for whether the music leads or trails the notes. If it plays before the notes reach the target line, increase audio calibration by 10–15 ms. If it plays after the notes pass the line, decrease audio calibration by 10–15 ms.
- Video: mute the audio and focus on whether inputs register early or late. If they register only early, decrease video calibration; if they register only late, increase it. Adjust in small 10–15 ms increments and test after each change.
Make one adjustment at a time, then retest. If the timing still feels wrong, repeat the test rather than making a large jump based on a single attempt.

Choose the offset that matches the symptom, then test and adjust it. Changing the visual offset will not move the hit window, and changing the input offset will not reposition the notes.
Check guitar recognition in Fortnite Festival
If you are playing Fortnite Festival with a supported guitar controller, the game should show Pro Lead and Pro Bass when you select an instrument part. If those choices are missing, open Festival settings and enable Always Display Pro Parts, as described in Epic’s guitar-controller support instructions.

This setting addresses missing part options; Epic’s instructions do not describe it as a way to reduce input latency. If your instrument options are visible but timing feels wrong, use the relevant calibration controls in the game rather than treating this visibility setting as a lag adjustment.

Retest your normal setup and stop when timing is consistent
After each change, play a song under the conditions you normally use: the same display, sound system, controller, and audio path. If the game offers a controlled practice mode, use it to judge timing before checking that the setting also feels right in ordinary play. Change one relevant setting at a time so you can tell what helped. No official guidance cited here establishes a universal calibration number or a guaranteed amount of lag reduction.
