What’s actually slowing this PC down?

To reduce input delay in Counter-Strike 2, measure a repeatable baseline, enable the supported low-latency option for your GPU, and test display and sync settings one at a time. First identify whether the problem is delayed input-to-screen response, uneven frame delivery, or network lag: these are different issues and need different fixes.
What “input delay” means in CS2
NVIDIA defines system latency as the time from a player’s action until it appears on screen. It includes peripheral communication, PC processing and rendering, and display response. NVIDIA distinguishes this from network latency—the time taken to communicate with a game server—which its system-latency statistic does not include. See NVIDIA’s CS2 Reflex guide.

- Peripheral latency: how long the mouse or keyboard takes to deliver an input to the PC.
- Game and render latency: time spent processing the input and rendering the frame.
- Display latency: time for the frame to appear on the monitor; refresh rate is one contributing factor.
- Network latency: delay communicating with the server. High ping can make play feel delayed, but changing a graphics setting does not fix the connection.
If your aim feels slow even in a repeatable offline practice scenario, investigate system latency. If the issue appears only in online play alongside connection problems, system-latency settings may not address it.
Measure a baseline before changing settings
Use the same repeatable scenario before and after each change. A practice scenario or benchmark is more useful than judging one match, where gameplay and network conditions can vary. Record the same readings and change one setting at a time so you can tell what helped.

Compatible GeForce systems: NVIDIA Reflex
- In CS2, open Settings > Video > Advanced Video.
- Set NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency to Enabled.
- Compare the same scenario against your baseline.
NVIDIA reported up to 35% lower system latency with Reflex in its CS2 launch-era coverage. That is a vendor result, not a promised improvement on every PC. NVIDIA also offers Enabled + Boost, which may lower latency further but uses more power and can slightly reduce frame rate. It is aimed at players who prioritize minimum latency over maximum frame rate. See NVIDIA’s CS2 coverage.

Supported Radeon systems: AMD Anti-Lag 2
AMD’s Adrenalin 24.5.1 technical-preview notes list CS2 support for Anti-Lag 2 and say it is enabled by default in Advanced Video. The feature coordinates CPU and GPU pacing, particularly in GPU-intensive situations. Confirm support in the current driver and game settings, since the cited details are version-specific. AMD reported an average latency decrease of up to 37% in its specified tests, not as a general result for all players. The tests used the CS2 Ancient benchmark, DirectX 11, Very High graphics, and a 2024 technical-preview driver, on an RX 7900 GRE, RX 7800 XT, RX 7600 XT, RX 7700S, or Ryzen 7 8700G integrated Radeon 780M, at listed resolutions from 1080p to 4K. AMD notes that configurations vary; those figures do not predict an individual system’s result.
Choose fullscreen and synchronization for your priorities
NVIDIA’s 2020 system-latency guide recommends fullscreen and generally recommends VSync off when the player can tolerate screen tearing. Its advice predates current CS2 and Windows changes, so treat it as a setting to test rather than a universal rule. See NVIDIA’s system-latency optimization guide.

Your choice depends on whether you value the lowest measured latency or a tear-free image:
- Prioritize minimum latency: test VSync off and uncapped FPS, then compare latency and frame delivery in the same scenario. Tearing may be visible.
- Prioritize avoiding tearing with compatible variable refresh: NVIDIA describes G-SYNC, VSync, and Reflex together as a tear-avoidance option that can keep latency low when the GPU is bound below refresh rate. It has slightly higher latency than uncapped FPS with Reflex.
There is no universally best combination for every PC, monitor, and player. Keep the option that meets your visual preference without introducing unacceptable frame-rate or responsiveness changes.

Make sure the display is actually using its intended refresh rate
Check the active refresh rate in your operating system and in-game display setup before considering a monitor purchase. NVIDIA’s CS2 guide says a higher display refresh rate is generally one of the best ways to reduce display latency, and that the PC ideally delivers a corresponding frame rate. A monitor’s advertised refresh rate does not help if the system is running it at a lower setting or cannot sustain an appropriate frame rate. See NVIDIA’s CS2 guide.
Upgrade hardware only when measurements point to a bottleneck
After checking settings and refresh rate, use measurements to decide whether a purchase addresses the actual limit. NVIDIA’s CS2 guide suggests considering a faster CPU when Game latency is high, or a faster GeForce RTX GPU when Render latency is high. These readings can inform a decision, but should be considered alongside your performance in the same workload, budget, and component compatibility.
Quick Recap
- Mouse: A lower-latency mouse may be worth considering if peripheral response is the issue. Higher DPI by itself does not mean lower mouse latency.
- Monitor: Consider a higher-refresh panel only after confirming your current display setting and checking whether your PC can deliver the corresponding frame rate.
- CPU or GPU: Upgrade only when the measured Game or Render latency and your workload support that choice; do not assume a more expensive component automatically fixes input delay.
