If Chrome’s tabs disappeared, press Ctrl+Shift+T on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Shift+T on Mac, and repeat the shortcut to try reopening recently closed tabs or windows. If that does not bring them back, check Chrome’s History, confirm you are using the right profile, and look for another Chrome window. These recovery steps depend on Chrome still having the closed session available; none is guaranteed to restore it.
Try reopening the recently closed tabs first
- Click a Chrome window so it is active.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+T on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Shift+T on Mac.
- Repeat the shortcut to try reopening earlier closed tabs or windows. Chrome Community guidance says it may also restore a recently closed tab group, but the behavior can vary by platform and version.
This shortcut is a community-recommended recovery attempt, not a guarantee. If Chrome no longer exposes the relevant session, the shortcut may not restore it. Chrome Community guidance

Look for a closed window or group in History
Open Chrome’s menu and inspect History for a recently closed multi-tab window or tab group. If Chrome lists the one you need, select it to try restoring it. Community contributors describe this route, but menu labels and behavior may differ across Chrome versions and platforms. Chrome Community guidance

Before treating the tabs as lost, confirm that Chrome is using the profile where you opened them. Also check whether another Chrome window is open or minimized; the tabs may still be there rather than closed. These checks are recommended in Chrome Community guidance. Chrome Community guidance

Recover individual pages from browsing History
If Chrome does not offer the previous window or group, search your browsing History for the sites you had open and reopen the pages individually. This can recover page addresses that remain in History, but it may not restore the previous window arrangement or tab-group organization. Chrome Community guidance
Set Chrome to reopen pages after future launches
Google Chrome Help documents a startup option that tells Chrome to reopen the pages that were open when you quit:

- 256 GB SSD of storage.
- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
- Open Chrome and select More (the three-dot menu).
- Select Settings.
- Choose On startup.
- Select Continue where you left off.
Google’s guidance describes this setting as a way to “re-open the same pages you were looking at when you quit.” It affects startup behavior; it is not a universal repair for a session that is already missing. Google Chrome Help: Set your homepage and startup page
What recovery can and cannot bring back
| Method | Best for | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Recently closed shortcut | A quick attempt to reopen recently closed tabs or windows | May restore a closed group or window if Chrome still makes it available; community guidance, not a guarantee |
| History menu | Finding a listed recently closed window or group | Availability and labels can vary by version and platform; community guidance |
| Browsing History | Finding and reopening individual pages | Can recover URLs found in History, but may not reproduce the original group or arrangement; community guidance |
| Continue where you left off | Having Chrome reopen pages at a future launch | A documented startup preference, not a way to reconstruct a session that Chrome no longer offers |
Recovery depends on whether Chrome still exposes the session and whether you are looking in the profile where the tabs were open. If the session is absent from Chrome’s available recovery options and the pages are not in History, the cited guidance establishes no guaranteed way to reconstruct them.

Keep important pages accessible next time
For pages you cannot afford to lose, save them in a bookmarks folder. A Chrome Community answer suggests this as a prevention measure; bookmarks do not reconstruct a vanished session, but they give you a separate way to return to saved pages. Chrome Community guidance
