For mobile viewing, set a lower default quality for mobile networks while keeping a different preference for Wi-Fi. The picture will show less detail, but the lower setting can also help reduce buffering on a limited or slow connection.

Open the nature stream in the YouTube app on Android.

Tap the video player, then tap Settings.

Select Data saver, or tap Advanced and choose a lower resolution that is available for that stream.

YouTube’s menu labels and layout can vary by app version. Data saver lowers picture quality; it does not promise a specific resolution. A chosen resolution may not be available for every live stream or at every moment. If a stream looks comfortable enough for listening or background ambience, there may be little benefit in paying for extra image detail with mobile data.

Set a lower default for mobile data
YouTube also lets you set video-quality preferences for mobile networks and Wi-Fi. In the Android app, open your profile picture, go to Settings, then Video quality preferences, and choose a lower quality preference for mobile networks. You can retain a higher preference for Wi-Fi. Menu names can differ between app versions; YouTube’s Android video-quality help describes the quality controls.
Changing the default affects future playback rather than necessarily changing a video already playing, so check the current stream’s Quality setting as well. If you are watching on a browser, TV, or another device, look for the player’s own Settings and Quality controls; the exact path depends on the device.
What lower quality changes—and why it matters overnight
Higher picture quality uses more data. YouTube notes that it can also take longer to start or buffer more often. Lower quality trades some visual detail for lower data use and, depending on your connection, potentially steadier playback. For a nature stream used mainly as background sound, try a lower setting and judge it on the screen you actually use.

A 24/7 stream can accumulate substantial data because playback continues hour after hour. But there is no verified measurement here for the exact stream’s bitrate, the rendition your device receives, or its daily usage. Do not treat a generic hourly estimate as a guaranteed bill for this particular video.
Use India’s broad estimates only as context
Jio publishes broad estimates for video streaming by quality level. The figures below are up to the stated amount per hour, not a measurement of this YouTube live stream. Jio says actual use varies by app or website.

These are Jio’s general India-facing estimates; the page does not state a publication year, and they are not specific to YouTube Live. Use them to understand why quality matters, not to calculate a precise daily or monthly total. Jio’s guidance on managing video-streaming data and its resolution-based consumption estimates both caution that actual use depends on the service.

Choose the quality you plan to use and watch for a fixed period, such as one hour.

Check the counter again and compare the difference with the time watched.

Repeat if playback quality or connection conditions change, and leave room for variation when planning your allowance.
This gives you a personal planning estimate for your device and connection, rather than a promise based on generic figures. Carrier counters may include other traffic, so avoid using the phone for unrelated downloads or streaming during the measurement if you want a cleaner comparison.
Viewer data use is different from creator upload data
If you are watching, your device receives video data; the player’s quality setting is the relevant control. If you operate the 24/7 stream, your connection sends the live input upstream, and the encoder’s bitrate, resolution, and frame rate affect that upload. YouTube’s live encoder guidance covers recommended settings and testing upload bitrate and stream health. Those creator-side figures are not estimates of how much a viewer downloads: YouTube transcodes live input into output formats for different devices and networks, so a viewer’s rendition need not match the input bitrate.
