To use fewer bytes when uploading a video to Gyre, reduce the video file size before you upload it. To protect a mobile data allowance, upload over Wi-Fi or broadband instead. Those are separate fixes: changing connections does not make the file smaller.
Why uploading to Gyre uses data
Gyre requires video files to be uploaded to Gyre storage before you can create a stream—even if the videos were already uploaded to YouTube or are in an existing playlist. A YouTube link alone does not avoid the Gyre upload. Gyre’s video preparation guidance describes this requirement.

The amount of data sent depends chiefly on the file’s size. For example, a 1 GB file requires roughly 1 GB of upload data, before any connection or service overhead. A smaller export sends fewer bytes, though it may trade away image detail or motion smoothness.

Use Gyre’s Video Converter
Gyre documents an account-side Video Converter with an Optimization option and a choice of 30 or 60 fps. The labels and workflow below reflect Gyre’s published instructions; exact interface details may change.

- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
- Sign in to your Gyre account and open the Video Converter.
- Select the video file you want to prepare.
- Choose Optimization and review the parameters shown for the output.
- Select 30 or 60 fps, as appropriate for the source and intended stream.
- Start optimization, then check the resulting file size and playback quality before uploading it to Gyre storage.
See Gyre’s Video Converter instructions for its workflow. The available documentation does not promise a particular reduction in file size; results depend on the original video’s encoding and the selected output settings.
Choose export settings deliberately
Gyre’s preparation article lists these targets for its referenced HD/full-HD live-stream requirements: 1280×720 or 1920×1080 resolution, H.264 video, a video bitrate of 3,072–6,144 kbps, 128 kbps audio, and 30 fps. Treat them as published preparation targets, not as a rule to encode every video at the maximum bitrate. A lower bitrate or resolution can reduce file size, but may make the image softer or less detailed.

- Resolution: Lowering resolution reduces the amount of image detail encoded. Use a lower setting only if it remains acceptable at the size viewers are likely to watch.
- Video bitrate: This strongly affects file size. Try a lower bitrate than the source or a high-end target, then inspect the result for blocking, softness, or other visible artifacts.
- Frame rate: If the source has more frames per second than the stream needs, reducing it may shrink the file. Lower frame rates can make motion look less smooth.
- Audio: Gyre lists 128 kbps audio in its preparation targets. Avoid unnecessarily high audio settings, but listen for quality loss after conversion.
For a dependable choice, export a short sample using the settings you are considering. Compare its file size and picture and sound quality with the original, then apply the settings to the full video if the trade-off is acceptable. Gyre does not publish a guaranteed savings percentage or one universally optimal export setting.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUse Wi-Fi to protect your mobile allowance
Uploading over Wi-Fi or fixed broadband keeps the transfer off your mobile data allowance, but the same file still has to be transferred. A smaller file reduces the bytes sent; Wi-Fi changes which connection carries those bytes. If the upload is large, use a reliable connection and avoid interrupting it by moving out of range or switching networks mid-transfer.

Jio’s published estimates illustrate how much streaming can vary by quality: up to 0.3 GB/hour at low, 0.7 GB/hour at medium, 1 GB/hour at high, 3 GB/hour at HD, and 7 GB/hour at Ultra HD. Jio cautions that actual streaming use varies by app or website. These are not upload estimates and should not be used to calculate the data needed for your Gyre file. Jio’s resolution and data usage guidance explains the streaming context.
Check the file and connection before you start
- Check the exported file size in your device’s file manager or computer before uploading.
- Confirm that the converted video plays correctly and that its picture and audio remain acceptable.
- If you must use mobile data, compare the file size with the data allowance you have left. Leave room for other phone or computer use during the upload.
- If the upload is interrupted, check whether Gyre shows the file as complete before retrying; do not assume a partial transfer has finished.
- For advice on reducing data during playback in individual apps, Jio’s video streaming data guidance concerns streaming settings, not Gyre uploads.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live around the clock, uploading a smaller file can reduce the initial transfer, but it does not remove the need to upload that file to a service that stores and streams it. StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos as a 24/7 YouTube stream: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
