To make fights in CONTROL Resonant easier, open Options > Gameplay > Assist Mode and adjust the combat setting that is causing trouble. You can change these settings during play, and Remedy says using Assist Mode does not block trophies or achievements. The Unknown Zone also received a separate, automatic combat adjustment in Update 1.4.0.
Change the combat setting that is giving you trouble
Assist Mode adjusts individual combat mechanics rather than asking you to choose one overall difficulty level. Remedy’s accessibility guide and Lead Gameplay Designer Sergey Mohov’s September 10, 2026 PlayStation.Blog overview describe these options and the problems they can address.

Remedy does not publish exact slider percentages or a single best configuration. Start with one or two controls that match the problem, test them in the next encounter, and adjust to your preference. Mohov’s stated principle is to let players change the parts of combat that are not working for them rather than impose one overall difficulty setting.
How to adjust Assist Mode
- Pause the game and open Options.
- Choose Gameplay, then Assist Mode.
- Change the relevant setting, such as Incoming Damage or Perfect Dodge Window.
- Return to play and see whether the next encounter feels manageable; fine-tune the setting if needed.
Remedy says Assist Mode can be switched on or off at any point during gameplay. The studio also says the settings do not prevent trophies or achievements.

What changed in the Unknown Zone
Remedy’s October 1, 2026 Update 1.4.0 notes say the overall amount and intensity of combat in the Unknown Zone decreased by 10–15%. This is a patch-level adjustment, not a slider you can set yourself.
The same update notes that fighting enemies below your level will be tougher. Remedy recommends doing side quests, exploring, and leveling up; the update also added a Build Power display on the Loadout screen to make your build strength easier to check.

If fights remain difficult after changing the settings
Consider whether the issue is progression as well as combat tuning. If your level is below an enemy’s, follow the update’s advice to pursue side quests and exploration before trying again. You can also use the Loadout screen’s Build Power display as a quick reference when assessing your character’s strength.

Remedy’s September 24, 2026 launch hotfix, version 1.3.3, reduced the base health and required Falter level of most enemies, including the Dancer and Deserter bosses, and increased maximum Aberrant Strength and Ability Strength. Remedy said the changes responded to feedback that early enemies felt too tanky and combat strength did not feel powerful enough. These are documented balance changes, not a guarantee that every encounter will feel equally easy.
