To reduce buffering on a 24/7 bhajan live stream, first find out whether the problem is at the broadcaster’s end or only on some viewers’ devices. If you stream to YouTube, check the encoder’s upload stability and bitrate, use a wired connection when practical, and avoid low-latency settings unless real-time interaction matters. Buffering can also be caused by a viewer’s connection or playback device. YouTube guidance below is a working assumption: other platforms may use different labels and settings, and the title alone does not establish the cause.
First establish who is affected
Note when buffering occurs and whether it affects every viewer or only a few. Ask a small number of viewers to report the approximate time, device, YouTube app or browser, and whether they were on Wi-Fi or mobile data. One report is not enough to conclude that an Indian ISP or a whole region is having a problem.

- Several viewers on different connections: start with the broadcaster’s encoder, upload path, and outgoing stream health.
- One viewer, or viewers using one device or connection: investigate local playback, device, app, or network conditions as well.
Keep these two sides separate during diagnosis: the broadcaster sends the stream to YouTube, while each viewer separately receives and plays YouTube’s stream.
Check the broadcaster’s upload and stream settings
Measure upload capacity when the stream normally runs
Run an upload speed test during representative busy hours, rather than relying on download speed or the headline speed in an internet plan. YouTube recommends keeping total stream bitrate within available upload bandwidth and allowing 20% headroom. Other devices using the same home, venue, or network connection can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder. YouTube’s streaming guidance explains the network and setup considerations.

For example, YouTube recommends 6 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30, and 10 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30; its listed minimums are 3 Mbps and 5 Mbps, respectively. These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a promise that a particular connection can sustain them or that every viewer will receive that resolution. Frame rate, codec, and resolution affect the recommendation. If the upload path is unstable, lower the encoder’s resolution or bitrate until the stream is sustainable, then test again. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance includes the recommendations.
Use the encoder settings YouTube recommends
For YouTube H.264 live ingest, use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. Match the encoder’s output to a resolution and bitrate your actual upload can maintain, rather than choosing a higher quality based only on the source video. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for different devices and network conditions, but that does not remove the need for a stable broadcaster-side upload.

Prefer Ethernet and rehearse privately
If the encoder is a computer and a wired connection is practical, connect it to the router by Ethernet. YouTube recommends Ethernet for computer-based live streaming. A suitable Cat6 Ethernet cable is one option if the computer and network equipment have usable Ethernet ports and the cable is long enough; it cannot fix ISP congestion or an unstable service path.

Choose latency for a non-interactive devotional stream
A 24/7 bhajan stream that does not depend on real-time conversation will usually be better served by normal latency than by chasing the shortest possible delay. Lower latency leaves less time for YouTube’s player to build a read-ahead buffer. YouTube Help puts it plainly: “Lower latency may mean more playback buffering.” See YouTube’s latency guidance for the trade-off. Choose lower latency only when the quicker interaction is worth the greater sensitivity to playback interruptions.
Do not switch to HLS simply as a buffering fix. YouTube’s HLS ingest documentation says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends segments; protocol changes should be based on a specific ingest requirement, not an assumption that HLS will stop playback stalls. YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide describes that difference.

Inspect encoder health and outgoing connectivity
Watch the encoder’s status and YouTube Live Control Room while buffering is reported. If the outgoing stream appears unhealthy, check encoder messages, CPU load, and the source audio and video; compare with the local recording to see whether the source itself has glitches. If the encoder output looks healthy but viewers across different connections still report problems, investigate outbound connectivity and the ISP path rather than assuming the source file is at fault. YouTube’s live streaming troubleshooting guidance covers encoder and stream issues.

When reports are limited to particular viewers, ask them to try another connection—switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data if available—and another supported device or browser. On a phone or tablet, clearing the YouTube app cache may help when the issue is local to the app. If YouTube playback on a TV is involved, check its broadcast-delay setting: YouTube TV guidance describes the default broadcast delay as best for minimizing interruptions. See YouTube’s TV playback help.

Plan for continuity, not just a successful start
A 24/7 stream needs checks after launch as well as a successful rehearsal. Schedule periodic reviews of encoder and Live Control Room health, monitor audio and video, confirm that you can access the stream from a mobile device, and rehearse any failover setup. YouTube recommends preparing in advance, previewing, testing encoder failover, and monitoring the stream; those steps reduce avoidable surprises but are not a guarantee of nonstop uptime. See YouTube’s live setup checklist.
