The underlying rules are the same on both systems: a normal PlayStation Store voucher has 12 digits, it must match the account’s Store region, and it can be redeemed only once. A 10-digit number is a discount code for use during checkout, not a wallet top-up voucher.

Which method should you use?
The console routes are convenient when the PS5 or PS4 is already in front of you. The website is useful if you are setting up a gift on a computer, while the PlayStation App is practical when the console is switched off or its Store is temporarily awkward to navigate. All three methods redeem the code for the account currently signed in; none can redirect the value to a different profile afterward.
Do not redeem a code merely because you are signed in on a shared console. The console is only the device used to access the Store. The PlayStation Network account shown during confirmation owns the wallet money or digital entitlement.
Check these details before redeeming
Identify the code type
Read the number on the card, receipt or digital message before opening the Store. Standard gift-card and content vouchers contain 12 digits. Discount codes contain 10 digits and are entered after you have items in the shopping cart, at checkout. Trying to put a 10-digit discount code into the voucher screen will not work.

A 12-digit code can represent wallet credit or a specific item, such as a game, add-on or subscription. The redemption screen should show what the code will apply before you give final confirmation. If the displayed product or amount is unexpected, stop and check the code and account rather than accepting it.
Match the voucher to the account region
PlayStation vouchers are region-locked. The country or region printed on a physical card must match the country or region configured for the PlayStation account’s Store. A card bought for one country cannot normally be redeemed on an account registered to another country, even if the console is being used elsewhere. Check the card packaging or the digital seller’s regional description before scratching or revealing the code.
Account country settings cannot be changed simply to bypass a mismatch. If the code was purchased for the wrong region, the retailer is the appropriate first contact; PlayStation Support can explain what options exist for an unresolved voucher problem.
The console’s language, physical location and IP address do not replace the account’s Store region. A traveler using a console abroad should still use a voucher intended for the account’s home region.

Sign in to the account that should receive the value
Redemption is tied to the account currently signed in, not to the physical console. Switch users before entering the code if the funds are intended for another adult account. Sony does not provide a way to move wallet funds or redeemed digital content between accounts afterward, so check the online ID and profile carefully.
On a family console, ask the intended account holder to confirm the profile before you expose the code. A successful redemption is normally immediate, and customer support cannot simply transfer a mistakenly redeemed balance to another user.
Confirm retailer activation
Some cards sold in shops have no value until the cashier activates them. Sony says these cards indicate that activation is required. Keep the receipt until the code has been accepted; a card that was never activated must be corrected by the retailer that sold it.

Activation is separate from entering the digits correctly. Repeated attempts will not activate a card, and changing consoles will not solve an activation failure. Take the card and receipt back to the seller if the purchase record shows that activation did not occur.
Special rule for a child account
A child account does not have its own wallet and cannot add funds directly. A wallet top-up voucher must be redeemed on the family manager’s account. The family manager can then set or adjust the child’s spending limit in family settings. This rule applies to wallet credit; it does not turn a child profile into the account that owns the funds.
If the code is for a particular item rather than wallet funds, read the confirmation screen carefully and make sure the child’s account is eligible to use that content. For ordinary wallet top-ups, use the family manager profile from the start.
How do I redeem a PlayStation gift card on PS5?
- Sign in to the PS5 user account that should receive the balance or content.
- Open PlayStation Store from the PS5 home screen.
- Press the Triangle button. This opens the Store’s side menu.
- Select … (More), then choose Redeem Code.
- Enter all 12 digits exactly as printed. Check each character before continuing; scratched cards can make a digit difficult to distinguish.
- Select Redeem and review the account and item shown on screen before accepting.
Use the on-screen keyboard carefully. If a character is hard to read, compare it with the original receipt or digital order record instead of guessing several times. Keep the card nearby until the transaction appears in the account history.
Wallet vouchers add the stated amount to the Store wallet. A game, add-on or other content voucher unlocks that item instead. For downloadable content, select Download if you want to begin immediately. If you leave the screen or choose not to download, the item remains associated with the account and can be downloaded later from the game library or the item’s Store page. Content that does not require a download will not display a Download option.
Downloading is not the same as redeeming. A slow or paused download does not undo a successful redemption. You can return to the library later, provided you use the same account that entered the code.
Where do I enter a PlayStation Store code on PS4?
- Sign in to the correct PS4 account and open PlayStation Store.
- Scroll all the way to the bottom of the Store’s left-hand sidebar.
- Select Redeem Codes.
- Type the 12-digit voucher code and select Continue.
- Review the result, then select Confirm or Yes, depending on the wording shown in your region.
When the code represents downloadable content, choose Continue > Download to start the download. You can also postpone it and retrieve the item later through the library. Wallet credit is available for a purchase as soon as the redemption succeeds.
If another person uses the PS4, glance at the profile name before opening the Store. The code is not stored on the hardware itself; it is attached to the PlayStation account selected during redemption.
Redeem from a browser or the PlayStation App
PlayStation Store website
- Open the PlayStation Store website for your account’s region and sign in.
- Select your profile icon.
- Choose Redeem Code.
- Enter the 12-digit voucher and select Continue.
Using the website does not change which account receives the funds; the signed-in profile at the time of redemption is the owner. Use the regional Store site that corresponds to that account, particularly when you are traveling or using a shared computer.

- Open the PlayStation App and sign in to the intended account.
- Select the PS Store icon.
- Open the Store menu and choose Redeem Code.
- Enter the 12-digit code and continue through the confirmation screen.
The app and browser routes are useful when a console is unavailable or its Store menu is difficult to navigate. Regional availability and labels may differ. Close or sign out of a shared browser or phone when finished so another person cannot redeem a code to the wrong account.

What a redeemed gift card can pay for
A PlayStation Store gift card adds money to the account’s wallet. Sony says wallet funds are used first when you buy eligible Store content; if the price is higher than the wallet balance, another payment method can cover the remainder.
- Full digital games and editions
- Downloadable add-ons and expansions
- PlayStation Plus and other eligible subscriptions
- In-game currency and other digital items
- Digital pre-orders
The wallet is for PlayStation Store goods and services. It cannot be used to purchase a physical console, controller, accessory or other merchandise. Sony also states that money added to the wallet cannot be refunded, so redeem only on the account that will spend it.
Wallet funds are not a transferable cash balance. You cannot split one redeemed voucher between two accounts, send the balance to a friend, or move it later to a child account. If a purchase costs more than the wallet balance, the Store can request an additional eligible payment method for the difference.

Work through the checks below in order. The on-screen error wording is useful, but the same checks cover most invalid, unavailable and already-redeemed messages.
1. Recheck every digit
Enter the code again slowly. Compare the printed characters with the entry field, especially where a scratch-off panel has damaged part of a digit. Do not add spaces or hyphens unless the Store inserts them automatically. If a physical card is so damaged that a character cannot be read, stop guessing and retain the card and receipt.
Check the first and last characters as well as the middle of the code. A single wrong digit makes the whole voucher fail, and repeated guesses do not reveal which character is incorrect.
2. Make sure it is a 12-digit voucher
Count the characters. A 10-digit number is a checkout discount code and belongs in the shopping cart’s discount-code field. It is not a replacement for a wallet voucher.

Review the card or receipt for an activation requirement and any expiry date. A retailer-sold card that was not activated will be rejected even when the digits are correct. Return to the seller with proof of purchase for activation or correction. For an expired code, check the terms printed with the voucher and ask the seller or PlayStation Support whether any remedy is available.
Do not discard packaging after a failed attempt. The printed country, activation notice and purchase details can be needed by the retailer or support team.
4. Verify the country or region
Compare the card’s country marking with the account’s PlayStation Store region. A mismatch cannot be fixed by changing the console’s display language or location. Do not repeatedly submit a foreign-region code; contact the seller if it was supplied incorrectly.

5. Check PlayStation service status
A temporary Store or account outage can prevent a valid code from being processed. Check the official service-status page linked from PlayStation Support, wait for an incident to clear, then sign out and back in before trying again. Signing in again refreshes the account session; it does not change the voucher’s region or activation state.
6. Determine whether it was already redeemed
Voucher codes are single-use. Open the account’s transaction history and look for a wallet top-up or content transaction matching the card. If the history shows the redemption, the value belongs to that account even if the download was not started. A code used by someone else cannot be redeemed a second time.
If the transaction is present but the balance seems unchanged, verify that you are viewing the same account and reopen the Store. A second attempt is unnecessary once the transaction has posted.
7. Escalate a damaged or unresolved code
For a code printed on a damaged receipt, contact the retailer that issued the receipt. For other damaged cards or a code that remains rejected after the checks above, contact PlayStation Support. Keep the original card, receipt or order confirmation, and clear images of the voucher if Support requests them. Wallet balance does not look right
Confirm that you are viewing the same account that entered the code. Check transaction history for the wallet-credit entry, then reopen the Store or sign out and back in. Wallet funds are account-specific, so another user on the same console will not see the balance.

A game, add-on or subscription is not visible
Open the account’s game library and search for the redeemed item. Transaction history confirms whether the entitlement was applied. For add-ons and in-game currency, fully close and relaunch the game after redemption; some titles do not display new content until a fresh session begins. Also check that the add-on matches the game’s edition and region.
A download did not start
Choosing not to download does not cancel the redemption. Start the download later from the library or the Store page while signed in to the same account. If no Download option appeared, the redeemed item may not require a separate download.
Can I redeem a PlayStation gift card from another country?
Not normally. The voucher’s country or region must match the PlayStation Store region of the account. A card purchased while traveling, or sent by someone abroad, may therefore be unusable on your existing account. Check the regional marking before purchase or ask the seller to exchange an incorrectly supplied code. Do not assume that a console physically located in a country can redeem every card sold there; the account region controls eligibility.

Practical precautions for gift-card redemption
- Reveal the code only when you are ready to redeem it; treat the digits like cash.
- Use a private, secure account session on the official PlayStation Store, PS5, PS4 or PlayStation App.
- Never send a full unused code or a photo of its scratch panel to an untrusted person.
- Keep the receipt and card packaging until the balance or content appears in transaction history.
- Before confirming, read the account name and item shown on the redemption screen.
- Do not post the code in a screenshot, chat, livestream or support forum.
- If buying for someone else, purchase the voucher for that person’s account region and let the recipient redeem it themselves.
