To recover an XSplit Broadcaster scene, restore the presentation that contains it: open File, hold Shift, and click Load presentation…. Choose a backed-up presentation, then check its scene list. XSplit says Broadcaster automatically saves presentation backups and that this shortcut opens a prompt to load one.
Restore the presentation containing your scene
- Launch XSplit Broadcaster after the Windows restart.
- Open File.
- Hold Shift and click Load presentation…. XSplit’s recovery prompt should list backed-up presentations.
- Select the presentation backup you want to restore, then inspect the scene list for the missing scene.
XSplit describes a presentation as containing scenes, and scenes as containing sources. If the scene is not visible, first make sure you loaded the intended presentation.

If the scene is still missing
Check for a separately saved scene
Use the scene save and load options in XSplit’s File menu if you previously saved the scene separately. The recovery prompt is for backed-up presentations; it does not establish that every individual scene can be recovered.
Try the recovery prompt while Broadcaster loads
XSplit also says you can open the same recovery prompt by holding Shift while XSplit Broadcaster is loading after you log in.

Export a backup after recovery
For a separate portability copy, use Extensions > Presentation Packager. XSplit says it can save a self-contained BPZip presentation or a BPres file with its corresponding source folder. This is an export for safekeeping, not the recovery prompt. Keep a second copy somewhere separate if you want protection against losing the original files.
What to do if Broadcaster keeps crashing
XSplit says automatically generated dump files are located at %ProgramData%XSplitBroadcaster. A dump can help diagnose a crash; it is not a scene-restoration file. Follow XSplit Support’s directions to zip and share a dump if Support requests it.

Recovery limits and Windows compatibility
XSplit documents an automatic presentation-backup prompt, but does not specify how long backups are retained, where they are stored on disk, or how to restore them manually outside Broadcaster. The instructions do not guarantee recovery for every failure. A Windows restart alone is not identified as a cause of a missing scene.

XSplit’s current system requirements page lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit). It says Windows 8.1 and earlier are no longer supported and identifies Broadcaster V4.0 as available for those systems. Check XSplit’s requirements page for the current details before troubleshooting an older Windows installation.

XSplit’s statement that scenes, sources, and settings stay on-device was specific to its 2025 infrastructure transition; it should not be treated as a promise that files survive every restart, crash, reinstall, profile change, or storage failure.
