Use screen or window capture if Game Capture does not work. For console gameplay, connect the console to the PC through a capture card.
Record PC gameplay in XSplit
- Add the game to a scene. Open Add Source and choose Game Capture for a supported PC game. XSplit documents capture for games using DirectX, OpenGL or Vulkan. Position and resize the source on the stage as needed.
- Use a fallback if the game is not captured. Try Screen Capture for a game that is incompatible with Game Capture, such as some browser games. Application capture can capture a desktop window. These methods are alternatives, not a guarantee that every game or anti-cheat configuration will work.
- Check API detection settings. If a DirectX 12 or Vulkan game is not detected, check whether those capture options are enabled at Tools > Settings > General. Menu names and behavior can vary by Broadcaster version.
- Set up local recording. In Record, select the gear icon beside the target scene or Active Scene to open Local Recording Properties. Choose the intended scene, video codec, quality and audio options.
- Start the recording. Select Record > Active Scene. XSplit records the active scene shown in the preview, so check the scene composition before starting. Use the Record menu to pause or stop.
- Locate the file. In XSplit, open File > My Recordings. This is the documented in-app route to your local recordings; the exact filesystem location depends on your configuration.
Choose capture and recording settings
Codec and quality
Local Recording Properties offers software encoding such as x264 and hardware options that depend on the PC, including NVENC H.264, AMD VCE, Intel QuickSync and AVerMedia H.264. Hardware availability varies by installed device. Higher quality can use more CPU or GPU resources, so there is no single best preset for every game, resolution and frame rate. XSplit lists quality presets from standard through ultra high, as well as custom settings.
Choose a setting your system can sustain while the game is running. If the game becomes unstable or the recording drops frames, reduce the recording quality or resolution, or try another available encoder. The support documentation describes available choices but does not establish a universally best encoder or preset.
Audio and separate tracks
Set the audio options in Local Recording Properties. XSplit exposes audio bitrate and mono/stereo choices. Its documentation says audio bitrate choices begin at 96 kbps and that higher bitrates and stereo are license-gated to Premium Bundle or Broadcaster Premium; this is version-sensitive, so check the options and licensing shown in your installed edition.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you want to adjust your voice and game sound independently during editing, enable the option to save microphone and system/game audio as separate tracks. XSplit describes tracks for system sound, microphone and stream-only audio. Check the mixer assignments and make a short test recording: audio capture depends on the selected capture mode and version. In the documented Presentation Sources mode for Broadcaster 4.5, adding Game Capture captures the game audio even if it plays through the default system device.
File format and playback compatibility
XSplit documents FLV and MP4 recording output. MP4 can be split by duration or size, which may be useful for long sessions or file-management limits. The Record Menu guide says constant frame rate is enabled by default. An “Optimize for YouTube” option applies encoder settings, but that setting is not a guarantee that a file will meet every platform requirement or deliver ideal quality.

Capture console gameplay or a second PC
Console to one PC
XSplit says a capture card is required to bring console video into Broadcaster. Connect the console to a compatible capture card, connect that device to the PC, then open Add Source > Camera/Capture Card and select the device. The required cabling, supported resolution and refresh rate depend on the console and capture card. A webcam is optional; add it from the same source category if you want a camera overlay.
Two-PC recording setup
For a two-PC setup, send the gaming computer’s video to the computer running XSplit, using a compatible internal or external capture card, then add the card through Add Source > Camera/Capture Card. The XSplit computer must meet Broadcaster’s requirements. A second PC can separate gaming and production workloads, but the support guidance does not provide controlled performance measurements or guarantee that recording will improve.

Check whether your PC meets XSplit’s requirements
XSplit’s published support listing specifies Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), at least a 2nd Generation Core i5 or equivalent, 8 GB RAM, and a GeForce- or Radeon-class GPU supporting DirectX 10.1 or better. Its recording/streaming recommendations specify a 4th Generation Core i5 for HD 720p and a 4th Generation Core i7 for HD 1080p. These are vendor-stated requirements, not a guarantee of smooth recording with every game, scene or setting.
XSplit’s Settings guidance notes that USB 2.0 capture-device DXVA2 acceleration is available only in Broadcaster V4.1 or earlier. Do not treat that legacy option as a current-version fix.

Troubleshoot common recording problems
- The game does not appear in Game Capture: Check the DirectX 12 and Vulkan options at Tools > Settings > General if relevant. If detection still fails, switch to Screen Capture or Application capture. Compatibility can depend on the game and its anti-cheat configuration.
- The recording shows the wrong content: Confirm that the intended scene is selected and visible in preview. Record > Active Scene captures the active scene, not necessarily every source or window on your desktop.
- Game sound or microphone audio is missing: Review the mixer and track assignments, then check the audio options in Local Recording Properties. Confirm that the chosen capture mode includes the audio source you expect, and make a short test recording before a long session.
- Performance suffers during recording: Try a lower quality setting or a different available encoder, then retest while the game is running. Encoding options and their performance depend on your hardware; no setting is guaranteed to suit every system.
- You cannot find the saved video: Open File > My Recordings in XSplit rather than relying on a universal folder path.
- A console or second PC is not appearing as a source: Check the capture card connection and select the correct device under Add Source > Camera/Capture Card. Supported modes depend on the card and connected device.
Recording locally versus keeping a YouTube stream live
XSplit’s workflow above creates a local recording of gameplay. If your separate goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative rather than a gameplay recorder: it loops uploaded videos and keeps running without a home computer staying on.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube and plays uploaded videos; it does not stream live camera footage. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I record a game and microphone to separate files?
XSplit provides multitrack recording options for separate system/game, microphone and stream-only audio tracks; it does not establish that each track is saved as its own separate file.
Can I record console gameplay without a capture card in XSplit?
XSplit’s documented workflow requires a capture card to pass console video into Broadcaster.
